We keep her in the house at night, she sleeps either on her dog bed in the bedroom or right at the base of the bed on my side. We have been letting her sleep in the bedroom for about 1.5 months now, before that we kept her in a large dog crate. During the day when no one is at home I put her in her 6'X12' outside kennel, but if bad weather is coming or it is going to be over 85 deg I then put her in her crate.

She doesn't like to swim very much, but she just loves the snow or atleast she did when she was 3 months old.

This is the first dog that I have had in almost 6 years, and now I wonder how I ever got along without one!!
What did you do with her during the day in the winter? I've been thinking about getting an Aussie but don't know which would be a better idea in the winter during the day while I'm at work (9-12 hours during the day):

1. 6'x12' dog kennel with a heat pad in the dog house

2. large dog crate inside the house

We got KC in february, and since she was only 7weeks old when we got her we kept her in the crate in the house, but I am lucky enough to only work about 2 miles away so I just ran home and let her out. But now that she is alittle older and can actually "hold it" somedays it 9-10 hours before she gets let out, but most days I still come home for lunch.

But this winter unless it is colder than he!! out she is going to be in the kennel during the day, since this past winter I built an insulated and heated dog house for her. I got to wondering one day how warm it actually got inside the dog house, so I put a thermometer inside of it for about 2 hours. That day it was 20deg outside and it was 48 inside the dog house. So I figured that was pretty darn good.

Cool, so while a puppy he'll stay inside in the crate and I'll just have to clean the crate. Then when he get's a little older I'll do the same thing with the kennel.

I wish I could go home during lunch but with my job I'm often around different parts of the TC and thus can't afford to drive back home 45 minutes over lunch.

The heated dog house outside though will be exactly what I'll do. Besides with all their fur, I'm sure they'll be fine in a 50 degree dog house.

2 Yellow labs...

My 2 dogs were Sadie, and Heidi.

Everything you've heard about lab pups and chewing is an understatement. I bought 2 wood dog houses that were $300 each. 2 days after they were built, the dogs pretty much had chewed them to firewood. Both of my dogs were of English line, not American labs.

Both were well trained to track deer after they were killed via archery. If I can find pics, I'll post.

Anyone looking to get a lab pup, I highly recommend you surf the following sight for a reputable breeder in or around your area. Most of the pups from these breeders will go from $800 up to $1200 or more. This is an excellent site:

I love my black lab. You have to have lots of patience in order to have a lab. Puppies will drive you nuts.. in a good way

If a dog is used to staying outside and has access to suitable shelter from the coldest weather they will do just fine. My folks had a lab/collie that was strictly an outside dog. They live in north Idaho and the winters can get pretty darned cold. He had a dog house, no heater but lots of straw for bedding. When he got in his house and burrowed into that straw he stayed nice and toasty.

Screw breeders! There are plenty of animals out there at shelters looking for homes.
