Didn't Bush Take responsibility for the Failings of FEMA during Katrina?
Oh yea, He did..

"Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government and to the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility,"
I give him credit for admitting they screwed up. He doesn't do that very often..

Indeed- Like Odin said, perception is not always true. But, for most- perception is 9/10ths of reality. No matter who we get our news from, it's still based upon someone else's agenda. Media (all media, even conservative talk radio, and public access TV) is either fueled by advertising dollars, or one's personal agenda. In some cases, both. Variations on a theme.
We believe the media's interpretation when we want to : O. J. Simpson
We say the media is unreliable, when it's something we don't like: Bush's Presidency.
Perception...
If the media had been on Clinton like Bush? The media rode Clinton's **** from the day he won the DNC Nomination until the day Bush was sworn in. They mainly attacked his personal life, because professionally- it was hard to tie anything to him. A lot of crap came up during Clinton's years too.
That's without really thinking about what else. They both took their licks (no pun intended).
While Clinton's trials are small compared to what Bush has had to deal with- it's really only because we have term limits in the White House. If we didn't, Bill Clinton would still be the President today. Even through eight years of media bashing, late night jokes, and special investigations, he was still the most popular President with the people, ever. I think trials and scrutiny made him more popular.
Bush won, twice- due to fear, name recognition, and- a lack of options.
Fred Thompson does seem like a good choice, but- I don't know enough about the man yet- to decide if he'll get my vote. I'm not gonna vote for him, just because he happens to be a powerful leader on just about everything I've ever seen him on, in the movies (In the Line of Fire, The Hunt for Red October), or TV (Law & Order). An actor made a great President before- that doesn't make it required DNA.

- Paula Jones
- Whitewater
- NAFTA
- Monica Lewinski
- Governmental shut-down (Thanks to disagreement on budgets).

I won't vote for him for the sole reason he was a Lobbyist for 20 years. The Lobby system is one of the worst things of our political system. I don't think he's going to reform the current "pay to play" system....

Unless something disastrous happens in the next 18 months, and Bush has a chance to rise to the occasion- History will not look back on him fondly. I agree, he has been the most tested President in US History, but- he has not tested well.
9/11: Passed Worth 30% of the grade
Afghanistan (Passed) (Worth 10% of the Grade)
Iraq: Failed (Worth 50% of the grade)
Katrina: Failed (Worth 5% of the grade)
Rita: Passed (Worth 5% of the grade)
Extra Credit: TBD (Worth + 20%)

guess you haven't heard the democrat controlled congress has a 14% aproval rating. Kind of blows your theories right out of the water. Bush's most stupid mistakes are not communicating well, trying to get along with dumbocrats, and letting the dumbocrats walk all over him. The attorney firing.. he should have come straight out and said "yeah I fired them... so what? that is my perogitive" He should have pardoned libby straight out. Finally the whitehouse is speaking out against the dumbocrats who are trying to investigate bush for comuting his sentence. That whole farce should have blown the dumbocrats out of the water with there obvious hate filled witch hunt. But the media is behind the congress now that democrats are in control. I can't believe you said clinton was ragged on by the media. He was the media darling and couldn't do anything wrong. They reported a few things because they HAD to. And when they did, they put a positive spin on it. You can't even say that clinton was treated any where near as bad as bush with a straight face.

Yes, I can... The difference is, Clinton didn't give the media and the comedians (Jon Stewart, Colbert, Leno, Letterman, Maher, etc..) as much free material as George does, everytime he opens his mouth. Don't get mad because Bill (And every other President we've had) have been great public speakers. When you can't communicate well, it should come as no surprise when people misunderstand you, don't listen to you, don't believe you, and more importantly, don't trust you.
No, I hadn't heard about the Congressional approval rating. However, the Congressional approval rating was in the toilet back when the Republicans were in charge too: (Source: http://www.pollingreport.com/CongJob.htm
I guess we found out what America thought of the previous Congressional approval rating last November, didn't we? When the Republican led House and Senate was turned on it's ear.

Oh, and I'd bet he wouldn't have pardoned Libby if this was his first term. now that he's a lame duck, what's it gonna hurt?
Many political Republicans have turned their back on George. Why do you suppose that is?
Oh, and just in case you didn't know Chris, without two wings a plane won't fly very well. Checks & Balances Chris... Checks and Balances.
But, even when it was all Republicans, witness the results... (2001 - 2006)
It's just sad it took seven years for others to see, what many of us saw during the campaign, and in November of 2000. I admit, there weren't a lot of good choices, but Jeezuz... Twice?

The economy is better than it was under Clinton? While that may be true for Big Oil, Haliburton, and Defense Contractors; everyone else- including retail, has taken it on the chin. Consumer confidence has been in the toilet most of the last 6 years, although it's starting to rise again.
Just because the Dow is around 13,000- don't let that number fool you. Companies are more profitable, and investors are gaining because the American worker is being sold out. Jobs by the thousands are being sent to India, Brazil, the Phillippines, etc... American's by the thousands are being forced into career changes and lower paying jobs- because the higher paying ones are dying on the vine, or being relocated.
The only place to be relatively safe in America as a regular Joe, is through self-employment, work for Big Oil, work for the US Government, or contract with the US Government. Anything else, and the next "All Hands" meeting, may be your last.
That's why it seems like America is thriving... It's only thriving for the rich, and a few lucky middle-classers. Everyone else is treading water, floating, or sinking.
