That sux. I have thought about selling my truck too, and getting a street bike. I would have to get a trailer for my quad and tow it with the Tahoe though. My gas isn't great. I average like 16 or 17mpg, but I have a heavy foot and drive on mostly rural roads. At least your going to a great truck. Nice V6 too. They perform well, but when it comes to hauling... I had my V6 F150 loaded with 1200lbs a couple of times. It hauled great, and the weight wasn't really noticeable, except for the softer ride. Ford needs a better middleweight. Don't get me wrong because I really like the ranger FX4 and the FX4 level ll, but it could be a little bigger, and then put a little more power to it... like the 4.2. They do perform great with the 4.0 at there current size though.

I know this was 12 years ago, but I had a 1995.5 Toyota Tacoma. That was the 1st year they came out. It was a great truck. I put about 150,000 miles on it in just under 5 years. I never had any problems. In fact, the only maintenance that I ever did was oil & filter changes and air filter. Never even touched the brakes.
I know someone mentioned it in a previous post above, but have you looked into the possibility of refinancing your current truck. Thinking long-term it's a bad idea, but doing so could significantly lower your payment right now. Of course, over the long run you'll end up paying more interest; but you also will end up paying more by buying a new truck right now... Just a thought, but refi'ing it may let you keep it with a lower payment. (Please nobody flame me because it's my suggestion is not financially sound. But sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.)

I almost bought a 2007 Taco double cab 4X4 longbed TRD Sport. I liked it, but after test driving it decided I just couldn't make the switch to a smaller truck after driving full-sizes for a decade. Damn nice trucks. Can't haul much though. A lot of guys are complaining about how much the rear springs compress under even just light loads. Still, I'd buy one in a heartbeat and pay the extra $$ over a Ranger/Colorado/Canyon/Dakota. The best price I got for that truck was about $28500. Granted that's with just about every option available, but it's only about $1500 less than I paid for my '07 screw.

In 2005 I bought a new FX4 SCrew and my neighbor bought a new Taco. In March we both bought new trucks. On trade-in, I got $500 less for the FX4 than I paid for it two years earlier. Basically cost me $500 to drive it for two years. When he traded in his Taco on a Tundra, he got $7000 less than he OWED to Toyota on the loan. He wasn't upside down when he bought the Taco. Just food for thought.
He always hated the Taco since he only got 1 MPG more than I did in my FX4. Now, he hates his Tundra cause he paid more for it than I did on my new FX4, and I got a heck of a lot more truck. Not to mention, I get 4-5 MPG more than he does. He's hoping it has the classic 5.7L engine fire so he can get out from under it.

yeah yada yada financial crisis but his payments will be lower so it will be easier month to month after the one bit of time where hes spending a little more to get a new automobile.
and he will get better mileage.
It's basically hit and miss, but he cant do worse than 14. Some dudes on a toyota forum i go to reported above 26 MPG on a multiple hundred mile trip consisting of highways.
