That's nice. But you do realize of course that you'd probably go to jail if there were witnesses to such stupidity right?

Hes the one who lost control and by law he should have been walking that bike over. Not much I could have done besides swerve like I did. Just that had there been another car next to me I wouldnt have been able to do anything but hit the brakes and I know I wouldnt have been able to stop in time.

You dont go to jail over a collision especially when the *** that gets hit is the one who f'ed up

Interesting idea: Why don't cops write tickets for cyclists??? I am one (cyclidst, not a cop), and I am a driver. I understand the frustrations of both, but what I don't understand is the idiots who think that theuy are as tough as a semi... Yes the law does allot a full lane, but it doesn't require that you use it... I think cops should do more. I watched a group of cyclists blow a light, and almost caused a pile up. The cop sitting there just said to me: "Wow. That was close.". I asked him why he didn't do anything, and his response was "about what???"

The problem is that there are a FEW good bikers out there who have common sense. These are the ones who realize that they should not ride on freeways, highways, or roads that are heavily trafficked withut a shoulder. Sometimes, I just want to doorslap the idiots that don't have common sense. Maybe a "driving test" for bikers should be established.

Oddly enough, though, the packs (mini-tour wannabes or trainees as you say) are usually safer, in that they usually ride well-planned routes, follow traffic laws, etc. But anyone who rides with their daughter at night with no lighting should be imprisoned. ..

Just my thoughts

There have been many instances here in Eugene of bicyclists being issued tickets for various infractions. I'm fine with that. IMO a much bigger problem I see daily is people running red lights. Now I'm not talking just barely making it, I'm talking about it's red and they aren't even through the intersection yet. This is far more prevalent and dangerous than a guy on a 10 speed rolling through a stop sign.

Perhaps I'm just ignorant, but which law states that you have to walk the bike??

Instead of swerving couldn't you have applied your brakes? I think the prosecuting attorney might ask that question if you hit and killed somebody.

well dont forget you guys are also spendin a lot more to get down that same road as they are not to mention theyre probably in 50% better shape than a lot of you nuts.

Anyways, what about some kind of street light similar to the one that tells when people are allowed to walk across the street, but for bikes, or is that already been done?

edit :

nvm!

Under the provincial highway act, adult bicycles are classified as vehicles and are not allowed to be ridden on sidewalks they must be walked.

Like I said before, I swerved to avoid the jerkoff cause there was no way in hell I would have been able to stop since he came off the sidewalk right in front of me. If he had been hit and since it was his fault by law tough **** for him.

EDITYou are one of those guys that brag about how you can drive drunk and be careful aren't you? Seem like it. KUDOS TO YOU! Can we vote for a category of people like this for the Darwin award?
Actually I do have friends and a couple of family members who ride bicycles, and as far as I know, what they've told me, they stop at red lights, stop signs, signal their intentions to change lanes, DON'T ride on highways where the speed limit is 60 mph +... And don't get me wrong, there are cyclists who I see every day who are courteous, obey the laws, don't tempt fate by "riding the white line.." However, as a percentage of the traffic on the road that I see, (tens of thousands of autos as opposed to maybe three dozen cyclists), every day I'd have to estimate that 75% of cyclists on the roads I drive pay no attention whatsoever to traffic laws. As opposed to less than 1% (far less) of motorists who I see run red lights, stop signs, etc.
The "fog" I produce when aggravated at idiots such as yourself is by no means impenetrable to human vision, just very nasty to inhale, hey it will increase your heart rate, so just thank me later, ok!

The argument that you also pay for those roads is specious at best. The taxes that you pay to build and maintain the roads are for AUTOMOBILE traffic unless otherwise stated in whatever bond package you vote for.

Either ride safely, you always should, or else go buy some land where you can put in roads that YOU pay for out of your own pocket, no autos allowed.. or else stop your idiotic whining about the big metal monsters.

Oh, and no, I do not drive drunk. Is that the best ya got?

BTW, I'm friendly with several of the sheriff deputies out there and they've always said, "Hey, don't worry about running those idiots over.. you'll spend one night in jail, they have no sense.." ... I have no intention of ever doing that, don't know how the folks who have been in the right even live with themselves afterward, but I also do not worry about what would happen if the worst happened.
What part of staying out of the way of 10,000 lb trucks is confusing?

Yeah they dont compare to people who are serious body builders or anything, but for an activity that ANYONE can learn and do itll get you in good shape if you commit. Leisurely bicycling itself has put me in better shape than i was before.

Actually I don't even think body builders were on the list that I read a few years back. . I only remember the first two. Soccer players and Motocross riders. I want to say football players were a close third. It was some huge study they did a while back so it might of changed but I don't think see how.

when it comes to redlights, my actions vary. If there is no car insight, then i will probably just go through it since slowing down and stopping means that you would have to wait on me as i gain speed. If its busy, no way. I stop.

I hope you get a ticket and have your bike impounded.

I qualify for soccer and biking...The biking can be hard, but all day on a bike is easier than the 1st half of a soccer game. Definately, soccer, and other sports, too, are better than biking. BUT-- Biking is great for those who have age and/or medical conditions against them. I know a few guys who are ridden to a walker, but will stomp me on a bike (ie: Floyd Landis is a good example, but I don't know him personally)

I agree with both sides. Bikers should be courteous as should motorists. But if both aren't courteous and using common sense at the same time, than people will get pissed.
I really like the bike light idea for those idiots out there...

Next time you want to hit a biker...think about these and put yourself being the biker getting hit.
Also, imagine riding down a road, getting hit and then sliding over 20 yards on the asphalt. Yeah, you wouldnt want that either.
