Laptops?

My desktop is on its way out so I need a replacement. I going with a laptop this time.

Just wondering what kind of laptops you guys are running or recommend.

Looking for a 17" screen, not too much else I HAVE to have.

I used to sell computers but that's been almost 6 years ago. I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff I'm not upto speed on.

Dell Inspiron E1705. It starts at $899 right now. Configure it with XP unless you want to upgrade it to 2gb ram for Vista. Standard ram is 1gb.

I just bought a Toshiba on sale at Circuit City with 1G of RAM, 120 HD, but only a 15" screen for $570. They had some with 17" screen laptops at great discounts. Might be worth checking it out.

I asked that question a while back, Dell was the one most reccomended. I bought one, biggest piece of crap I ever owned. Go with an HP, my last one gave me no problems, I just wanted something more up to date. I bought an E1705 bout 2200 bucks.

I have tried the online tech support and the phone and it still doesn't work correctly.

I would have tried a MAC but they were a bit more than I wanted to spend, for what I wanted.

Dell is on my list since I get a discount on them thru work.

I'm also looking at Toshiba and HP.

Circuit City seems to have better prices than Best Buy on the same equipment. The staples here doesn't really have much, and I haven't been to Office Depot.

I have a Sony Vaio I use at home, and a Dell Latitude I use for work. Other than the Sony running pretty hot (it'd run hot enough after a couple of hours to where it'd start bogging down tremendously - I bought one of those cool pads with the little fans in it, no more problems), both have been great.

I have a Toshina laptop. Does nothing but break down. Go with the Dell or HP.

I second the vote on HP. Mine is almost two years old and haven't had a single issue with it yet (knock on wood) other than the battery wearing out and that's expected.

as bad as I hate to admit it, I bought my wife a super cheap compaq (same as HP) last fall, and surprisingly it is holding up better than I ever expected. If it makes it until next fall I will be tickeled pink.

I could never get anything form any brand new to do what I do for any brand for as cheap as we paid for hers. So if I was going to spend the money for myself today; I would antie up and look into either a Mac or if you prefer PC then Alienware.

Third choice would be a Dell, I got this dell desktop last fall too and so far not to shabby.

I like the Alieware stuff, but man they sure are proud of it. One I looked at was like $3k!

I found a Dell I liked, just need to figure out my work discount. I also found a Toshiba.
