I'm a Camel man, I fluctuate between 1/2 a pack to a pack and a half a day depending on my schedule and how much windshield time I put in.

I've smoked for 18 years, it's starting to take a toll on me, that and not being as active as I use to be. I'd like to quit and become more active again.
My mom told me to never give up, never quit anything!!!!
Wish she hadnt said that........
Or atleast left an exception in there, it has worked well every where else in life, but not here.

What was the point in starting in the first place?

The price of cigarettes alone these days would keep me from even thinking about starting such a nasty habit. I bought a pack a few weeks back for my sister and almost fell over backwards when I found out how much they cost!

For a heavy smoker (1-3 packs a day) that would be some serious coin by the end of the year -- I'd be in misery just thinking about all the cool stuff I could have bought with the money instead!

Ironically, most of us including myself, started because it was cool and we wanted to be cool too. Now it is one of the most uncool things to do but unfortunatly we are hooked. I actualy started out chewing, then after a few years strated having dental rpoblems from it but wanted the nicotine, so switched to ciggerettes.

Just wait for your local government to outlaw it. That should make it easy.

I'm 48 and I'm thinking of starting. My reasons are:

It looks cool.

I bore easily so I could easily amuse myself by blowing smoke rings, especially where I could blow out a smoke ring and then quickly follow that with another ring that passes through the first ring. (I've actually seen someone do this and there's nothing more cool).

A cigarette with a cup of coffee - it seems like they just go together. I love coffee so this is a natural progression.

All serious writers smoke. I'm writing my book and have kinda hit a wall so I figure that if I start smoking I can get past this writer's block.

If I start smoking I'll probably lose weight. Cigarettes will take the place of snacking = weight loss.

But most importantly, I want a voice like Kris Kristofferson's.

Since I'm almost 50, I figure I'll die of old age before lung cancer or emphysema can get me so I've got nothing to worry about.

Ok, that's it -- when I turn 50 I'm eating fried chicken for dinner four times a week.....

It works, don't ask me how but myself and three of my friends quit this way. It was like turning off a faucet. I didn't even want them anymore.

My Dad smokes... he's been smokin' since he was about 17 years old... he's 67 years old now. He smokes about 3 to 4 packs a day. I watch him throw his money away on smokes like it was toilet paper. He smokes nothing but the best; Marlboros or Camels. Sometimes some portafinos when he needs a jolt of nicotine. He's badly addicted and I feel bad for him.

For all the smokes he bought, I bet I could have one sick looking truck...

For me, I run XC and Indoor/Outdoor track, and cycle... and I do not like smoking. It kind of ticks me off that my Dad smokes around me... even when I was younger. I just hope I don't have any ill effects down the road. My XC 5 mile times are in the 28:30s. Ran a 15k race in 98:26 with no problem. I then do the 100, 200, and 400 meter sprints too. Takes a lot of training... and it makes me feel awesome.

So I don't know how puffing makes you feel better, and I've obviously been with my Dad since I was born and I still don't know why the heck he does it. It's gross, nasty, and unhealthy. Even campfire smoke bothers me... However the only smokes that smells good to me is diesel smoke from a diesel truck. LOL Dunno why. People say they get nausated from it.

I hold a grudge against people that smoke. It is seriously disgusting, it smells horrible. I actually tend to look down on people that smoke

Sorry that I laugh at people in buisness suits that are all huddled around one another outside the office building in 30* temp getting their smoke on cause they "need" it.
