ATTN Kobi: Adobe CS3 Rant...

Ok, seriously... previous versions never did this crap... why in the hell must I close everything in order to install a freaking program?! WTF?! Damn you Adobe!!!!! You suck. I'm not installing your poorly coded POS program now... douche-bags.

Interesting . . . and this ties into my "My Mac Crashed" thread . . .

Back in OS 7-9 days . . . you had to close everything to install. And it has always been my understanding, even with todays OSs . . . it's advisable to close all programs.

So what. Close 'em, install it, then resume your daily routine . . . .

I ain't going to CS3 until I master CS2. Besides, I don't want to try and figure out which version best suits me.

I'm a busy guy... and unless the application I'm installing has shared files with running programs that may have locked said shared files (ie, an office upgrade, CS2, etc...) there is no reason to close programs. That's a big myth. The thing is 99% of users aren't smart enough to understand what apps should be closed at what time. So most software vendors say "oh, close everything!!!" but then install fine anyway. The smarter vendors don't say anything, but if there is a conflict it will then notify you of the specific app that needs to be closed. The really dumb vendors (Adobe) just toss up a list of all open (and unrelated) apps to close. Grrrrrr... we've come so far only to get tossed back into the 80s and Windoze for Wurkgroups. *sigh*

Maybe I'll install tomorrow before I get my apps fired up and keyboard smokin'...

The amount of time you wasted typing all this whining and moaning . . . you could have used that energy to just install the program . . . .

That's bad ch'i, dude.

But bitching about it is more fun. And CS3 takes like an hour to install its 40GB of code, doesn't it?! I seem to recall the last few versions were mighty bloated... and if I can't surf while it installs what's a brotha to do?!

Ok so last night at work (was here late) I decided to crank up the install program. I was right, it took around 40+ minutes to install the entire DVD suite of products:

Acrobat 8 Pro
Distiller 8
Bridge CS3 (WTF is that?)
Device Centeral CS3 (lost here as well)
Extended Script Toolkit 2 (huH?)
Illustrator CS3
InDesign CS3
LiveCycle Designer 8.0
Photoshop CS3
Stock Photos CS3

I started the install and left my office and checked in from time to time only to heard the DVD howling.. then wind down... spin up... wind down..

I also got an e-mail from Adobe offering to provide a free overview of the CS3 apps to myself and staff. How sweet are they? Going to have to set that up...

In other news I was all excited since one of my dudes dug up a Wacom tablet... but alas it was an older model for the Mac... guess I will actually have to pony up some cash for one. Damnit!

You know it brotha!! Been so long since I saw that I thought it was a PS2 connection... then quickly realized what I was dealing with...

EDIT: Oh yeah, funny that it didn't blow away my CS2 products... can't recall my install options, but I did recall taking the defaults.
