Nice quote there on the regulation Pat... Very interesting that it SPECIFICALLY states that one shall not be issued a citation for obtaining their ID while at a traffic stop.

IMO, this is how it should be in ALL states.

Had to chuckle when I read this thread.....

My brother just rec'd a $90 ticket for using his cell w/o a hands-free set in NYC.... he was SITTING in traffic waiting to get into the Holland Tunnel and a NYC cop was WALKING through the lines of vehicles specifically looking for folks using hand-held cell phones.... came up from behind and rapped on the window...... didn't matter the car wasn't moving...

Just another one for the memory bank...

Now let's put the shoe on the other foot - or in the other mouth. Many of my friends in law enforcement don't wear their seat belts on a regular basis. Their (flawed) logic? When you have handcuffs, a 9 mm pistol, several extra clips, nightstick, flashlight, pepper spray, etc. on your belt, the seat belt gets caught on stuff and / or might actually injure you in a crash. Hmmmm. Nah, I don't buy it either.
Some RCMP commanders actually recommend that their officers not wear seatbelts on duty. The reason is some have been injured and killed in the past when they quickley undo the belt and jump out of the car they have been caught around the neck by the belt.

That checkpoint is BS, true laws are laws but there is both the letter and the spirit of the laws. Both are equally important, while not having the seatbelt fastened did violate the letter of the law it was not violating the spirit of it.

For such a BULL$H1T abuse of the law they should take all the officers involved and hang them . . . using seat belts in place of the rope.
