LeBron James: 35,000 Sq. Ft. Mansion
LeBron James: 35,000 Sq. Ft. Mansion
OK, the largest personal home (mansion) I have ever seen is Deion Sander's 33,000 square foot home in Prosper, TX, which made his "tiny" 11,000 square-foot home, and that of Troy Aikman (12,000) in Plano seem, well, tiny...
And, although this isn't the largest celebrity/athlete home I've ever heard of, (Aaron Spelling had 50,000 square feet, in Los Angeles~ considering the cost of real esatate in LA, that's impressive) 35,000 square feet is nothing to sneeze at.
Some unknown (to me) female European singer has a house over there, that's over 1,000,000 square feet.
Here's the article:

KING JAMES BUILDING HIS OWN PALACE: LeBron is constructing a crib to end all cribs in Akron hometown.
http://www.eurweb.com/story/eur32480.cfm
*Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James is building a 35,440-square-foot house in Bath Township, Ohio that is said to include a theater, bowling alley, casino and barber shop, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
Located 20 miles south of Cleveland, the palatial estate on 5.6 acres of land is due to be finished next year. It was purchased, along with an 11-bedroom house, in 2003 for $2.1 million.
The Akron native will soon enjoy a first-floor master suite, which includes a two-story walk-in closet that runs 40 feet wide and 56 feet long; a dining hall roughly 27 feet by 27 feet; a 34 X 37 "great room" and a bigger, two-story "grand room," according to the Beacon Journal.
A "family foyer" off the six-car garage near the elevator will co-exist with a "grand foyer" inside the front entrance, which includes a sweeping, divided staircase leading to four second-story bedrooms. An outer wall will feature a limestone sculpture - a bas-relief of LeBron's head, wearing his trademark headband.
Gawkers have reportedly been flocking to the construction site for weeks, which is not sitting well with the neighbors...
************************************************
Hearing about this kind of stuff, makes me wish MTV "Cribs" did a show on Billionaires, like Oprah, Bill Gates, Mark Cuban, Michael Dell, and the dude that owns (owned) Oracle. Just to see how excessive, excessive can be.
Personally, I'd need a 14-car garage.

5.6 acres of land and someone snapped a pic over the fence like that? What a waste of money. I'd have the property surrounded with razor-wire tipped fencing, and the house would be buried deep on the property...
Yep -- if I had his coin, a 6-car garage wouldn't even be larger enough to hold my "daily drivers", much less my collection of vintage American muscle and other assorted toys!
I guess LeBron isn't much of a car guy........

Me too, or a 20 foot wall (razor wire on top) with a mote.

5.6 acres is really that much. Not enough to have the house "buried deep on the property". On that much land you'll never have the too far from a fence. I do agree though that he could use a better fence if wants any privacy.

Depends on how the 5.6 acres is laid out.
[EDIT]
Nice truck BTW

**5.6 acres = 243,936sqft, or just shy of a 500x500ft lot..

It's nice, the land is worth far more than the house. After his death there was a talk of a sale at $125,000,000.00
To call it a "personal residence", while it is indeed that, dos not take into account that it also has offices that some of his production people would work out of.

I agree 100%
It's all about showing the world how much money you have. IMO.
I thought the part was funny when they said (perhaps in another article) that LeBron's house was only 10,000 square feet smaller than the local Best Buy.
Yep, I saw a recent edition of "Unique Whips" where they built an H2 Hummer for Lebron. Then they brought it to his house (Looks like it was maybe 4,500 square feet). I was thinking, "For a guy who was worth $91,000,000.00 the day he graduated high school, he went with a small home (For a guy with so much loot). That house was $550,000 in Ohio, would be anywhere from $450 - 700,000 here.
Now, we see- he's putting this home in a neighborhood where the rest of the houses are only 3,200 square feet or so, so he's gonna stand out, big time. But, the house that was there when he bought the land was an 11-room home. In the article I read yesterday, that house (11 BR) was demolished to make way for the new one.

If I were so lucky
I'm not big into houses, so I don't need that much space, plus my family ~my entire immediate family~ can fit into a properly equipped suburban)... They have a neighborhood in Plano ($650,000.00- Off Ohio, between Parker and Tulane)- Those houses are about 5,000 - 6,000 square feet. I'd move right into if I won the $300M jackpot, and would never think twice about it.
The only catch is, I'd have to buy the lot next to me, so I'd have a covered space for all my cars.

Then I'd go back home, and buy all my good friends (About 8 of them) brand new F-250 CrewCabs (They're all Ford & Dodge guys), and give them $1,000 gas card, and money for insurance for a year.
All of that would cost maybe- $1,900,000.00, not counting furniture...
That gives you some idea of how much crap $2,000,000.00 can buy, or how little it can buy, depending on your taste.
Even with all that, with a before tax base of $91,000,000.00 (Probably more than that now, with endorsements) he'd still have $89,000,000.00 of loose change in the bank...

Sounds like he is trying to compete with Shaq's house in Orlando/Windermere.
Check it out.

Total SF = 25,000. He has an indoor gym and a 6000 SF guest house.
