I hope your DirectTV HD order doesn't get screwed up. The tech brought out the wrong equipment(Direct TV screwed up the order.) Call & verify the order.

The printout that I got from DTV (I ordered online) shows that everything *should* be correct.

As I understand it, they're going to ship the product here and then the tech will show up and install it on the 9th. God willing, this will all work out well.

BTW, I got the new Samsung 50" DLP in place and I am **VERY** pleased now.

If DTV will pick up my local channels in HD, I'll be in business. Our damn locals are holding out for some reason ... all kinds of finger pointing going on as to who is to blame for us not already having it in place. I tried an antenna tonight and am able to snare ONE feed in HD. Very disappointing.

I just checked DTV for your zip, I think it is 40031. Hope I got the number right. They do not transmit any local channels in HD for that zip. If you want HD locals, you will need an antenna.
And to be honest, if you can get OTA locals, you will be better off as you will get far more local channels, both analog and digital, than offered by DTV. IMO

What type of antenna did you try?

Yeah... I'm aware of that. I snared a Phillips MANT510 (LINK) at Wally Hell last night. I hooked it up this morning and, much to my suprise, I am able to get nearly ALL of the Louisville HD channels!!! I can't snare FOX - which is kind of a bummer considering the sports programming - but, I'll live until DirectV and the locals come to some kind of agreement.

While I see the advantage to going with the 'local cable company', I refuse. For one, they've screwed me dry too many times -- I personally HATE them. Plus, being a NFL nut, I want to hang on to my Sunday Ticket. Until now, I've been NOTHING but pleased with DTV... I just wish they'd get out of the pissing matcth that they're involved with concerning our local HDs.

If you have a chance to get an exterior, rotor antenna, do it. I don't think you will be disappointed.
You will be able to hook up that set of rabbit ears to the DTV receiver. It will scan for the locals and you can set it up that it will download the schedules as if you were getting the locals from DTV. Also if you got the HD DVR, you will be able to record to disk the OTA channels too.
Also if you do not know it, there is an add-on package for the Sunday ticket. It is for HD games. Can't remember how many of the games, but quite a few each week.
Just so you can spend a little more. Not like I haven't spent enough myself on the HD/electronics world.

Update...

I'm totally set now with my HD DVR and new dish -- I wouldn't admit it but, this is why I haven't been on much lately. I'm finding myself watching shows that I would have *NEVER* watched before -- the difference is that they're in HD.

Plant Earth on Discovery HD is *UNREAL*.

So you have turned into an HD couch potato.

Had any luck with local OTA?

I know Exactly what you're saying. I never watched Nascar before, but Nascar in Surround Sound and HD is UNBELIEVEABLE! (as well as pretty much everything else..)

I get basically all the OTA HD that is available in this area. Fox is sketchy but, I get it on occasion.
