Dang . . . I can't wait till this puppy is done. Gonna require a trip to Dubai to see but it will be worth it.

Wonder if Habibi has seen this recently:

Currently at 116 stories tall at about 410 meters.

When completed, it will blow away ALL catagories of supertall when done.

:santa:

I'd go look at it, but that's right in the terrorists playground.

Not gonna stay where they have the home field advantage.

Yeah, Dubai has money to burn...

Some of the most ambitious, amazing, and potentially stupid man-made projects in the world, are being done over there.

List includes.
  • Man-made islands in the shape of Palm trees, upon which houses will be built,
  • Another set of man-made islands, that will look like the globe, upon which houses will be built.
  • Under-water hotel.
  • Yes, I said under-water hotel.

And, that's just what's being done in the water.

They have a hotel that looks like a sail.

If you are an architect with a mind for a fancy and amazing design, Dubai will pay you to build it. They are gonna make the stuff built in Vegas, and around the world, look like BS.

Ok gang this is a stupid question and I don't feel like looking but....

How do they move the cranes on those buildings. I assume assemble and disassemble on the top but how do they get the parts up there in the first place.

I'd be sick if I had to go up there.

Dubai: (Some of what they have going on...)

If they build this, the Burj Dubai (Max height estimated to be 800 meters (162) stories) will only have the title of world's tallest building for a breif time.

Al Burj will stretch to 166 floors. In this artist concept, you can see Burj Dubai in the background.

According to officials at Al Nakheel, the tower will be at least 700m tall and have more than 160 floors but no specific figures have been disclosed. This is very much the same strategy as that employed by Emaar with the Burj Dubai which currently under construction and will become the world's tallest building on completion. The secrecy behind Al Burj's height suggests that it will also try to compete for this title and rumours even suggest it will break the 1000m mark. There's indeed evidence from the latest renditions that height increases have been made. One of these renders even shows the tower with more than 200 floors. On March 14 2007, there was a news report that the Al Burj will reach 1000 meters, while the original height was scaled down from 1600 meters.

Also under construction is what is planned to become Dubai's new Central Business District, named Business Bay, when completed, will feature a phenomenal 500 skyscrapers built around an artificial extension of the existing Dubai Creek.

I believe there's an indoor ski resort in Dubai too that uses snow making machines.
