I think the traffic cameras are a waste of tax dollars. In U.S. courts you are innocent untill proven guilty. All the pictures show is your vehicle commiting an offense. If they cant prove that you were the driver then no ticket. That is unless you plead guilty.

That's what they say about parking tickets, but unless you can provide someone who will testify in court they were the person who drove it and parked it you get the ticket. If someone does confess to keep you out of the ticket, they will receive yours when the officer puts forward the motion to modify with the new defendants name. I've yet to see a magistrate or judge deny the motion to modify.
The problem with cameras in Ohio is that the courts have ruled that an officer has to be present, which defeats the purpose of the camera. While Cleveland touts the camera usage as a safety factor, (as it is supposed to slow people down and prevent them from going through the red lights,) we all knowit is about the $$$.
Many municipalities have been ordered to do away with the cameras or post an officer at the scene.

The spray works great. Ive never used it myself though. What pisses me off about the cameras is the city came out and said it was for money and the courts never forced them to take them down. Even though they violate federal privacy laws since they are mailed and there is no gurantee that you are the one who recieves the ticket. And the mobile units were only allowed to be at crosswalks or school zones. I always wondered what a Taurus with a camera out at 3am no-where near a cross-walk had to do with safety.
I havent had one in years, I know where all the cameras are (the city had to post signs before the intersections with them) and the mobile ones are easy to spot. You can see the unit through the back windows, and in winter a van idling on the side of the road is a good tip off. I got one thrown out since my Cougar had a digital dash and my defence was the fuse blew.

The city of Cleveland told everybody where they were going to be posted; but right now, after the court rulings, many cities, including Cleveland, will have to change the way they operate them or take them down. (At lest in Ohio.)
While the city claims it is for safety reasons, the amount of moolah they takein (after splitting some with the camera company) is amazing.
