I agree, I am redneck and speak it casually, but I also know how to articulate and there are times when speaking properly can make or break a deal. I change my dialect, and vocabulary according to the situation. It's the only smart thing to do.

When in rome do as the romans do.

"I speak my southern english just as natural as I please." When I'm speaking to the owner of the company I speak much differently than I do to the guys that work for me in the shop.

That's what he's trying to tell those kids. In professional situations speak properly. That's what I do as well.

I think they should call it Social Etiquette 101, instead of English class......

In Social Etiquette 102 we will cover body language.......

Yeah, and ethnicity has nothing to do with it. All people should have that class.

I agree 100%.
I have a few co workers that could benefit in daily interactions with the body language class.
What is it they claim??? Somethign like 90% of comunication is unspoken..... so what you say to someone is only 10% of what you speak, the rest is in your tone and body language.

Ain't that the truth!

I grew up in an environment where we generally spoke "proper" English. Now I live with someone who majored in English who has corrected me so often, I now correct her sometimes.

Speaking intelligently does make a big difference.
