Can you return a used vehicle if it were bought 2 weeks ago?

2 weeks ago i bought a used F150 replacing the one i had due to an accident in january.
This truck runs alright but has extremely annoying tick noises and rattle noises coming from the engine. Its going to get looked at on thursday when i get out of work. Today driving home, sure enough the stupid check engine light came on. I would use my XCALII to check on the codes but i left that at my house in rochester, and i'm here in buffalo for school.
My question is, the truck was sold to me with an aftermarket warranty that is supposed to be good. I'll find out thursday when i'm told what is wrong with this truck.
If it turns out to be a big mess, and for some reason the warranty won't cover the problems and now whatever is causing the check engine light, Can you return the truck to the dealer and say you no longer want it? Or is it simply, i bought the truck, now i'm stuck.
Unfortantely the dealer isnt a garage or dealership so they dont do any type of work on the vehicles they sell.

If you guys think its ok to return a vechicle, that'd be somewhat of a relief if things go down the crapper!
Thanks for your opinions everyone!
John

I've never heard of anyone being able to return a used vehicle, especially 2 weeks later.

Some states have x number of days to rescind a contract but in Maryland car sales are exempt.

I think you are stuck.

I think you're screwed too. Hopefully your warranty is good. I wouldn't count on the dealer being very helpful. Used car dealers have the rep that they do for a reason. Hope everything works out though..

Your probably gonna be stuck with any problems. Those aftermarket warranties are usually just a waste of money, and are very picky as to what they will cover. I had a similar problem when I bought my Explorer. When I was talking about the price, the dealer mentioned that the fuel pump had just been replaced (among the usuall BS they tell ya) Anyways two days later the thing just died on me. I knew right off it was the fuel pump, I needed it to get to work the next morning so I had it towed home and put a new pump in. Pulled the "new" one out of the tank and, it obviously was not new. The sock filter and the plastic cap on the bottom were sitting on the bottom of the tank, I could see the gears through the bottom. Only way I got the bastards to reimburse me for the cost was after yelling at the owner of the lot for a week and threatening to take them to court for breach of contract (because he said the pump was new, it was legally binding)

Basically, what Im saying is unless the dealer outright lied to you about something your probably screwed.

No...

Not unless you're gonna buy a new one. Most of the time they have that "AS-IS, No Warranty" box checked.

Even if a "cooling off" law existed (which it doesn't in most states) you'd be well past that time.

I think only CarMax gives you a 1,000 mile, or 30-days warranty, anyone else, you're stuck like Chuck.

well the only thing i've found is the New York State Lemon law, which covers only limited aspects of the vehicle. I have 30 days or 1000 miles for the lemon law since the truck has 85000 miles on it. I guess i would have to find out what parts are bad on the truck, if its covered under the provided warranty i have, or the lemon law warranty, and then bring up any issues with the dealer. If they dont pay to fix any problems covered under the lemon law, then i can get a full refund.

so i'll have to see what happens on thursday.and yep i do have the recipt. but the thing is i still havent recieved the title for the truck. I guess the DMV has it still or something. I dont know, i'll just wait and see what happens!

thanks for your opinions and i'm gonna try to be optimistic on this situation!

Prior frame or structural damage/repair might be an out. Also if its not over ten years old any odometer discrepancies and they would eat it.

I bought a VW once with 78k on it and I wanted rid of it soon after so I did a DMV title search and found out that two years before it was listed at 112k miles!

John, you'll laugh about it someday.
When I was your age I fell in love with a '72 Fiat, I just had to have it.
One thing I really liked about it was the custom front bumper, it was a 2x6 with a glossy finish.

It never dawned on me at age 21 to wonder why a car would have a piece of wood for a front bumper.

I didn't know the State required a front bumper and the wood was there because the car had been wrecked.

I didn't know it was suppossed to have little metric tires and not 13 inch tires that caused the fenders to rub if you put anything in the backseat.

I didn't know it had a bent frame until someone was following me and mentioned that I was going down the road like a crab.

I'm a lot smarter now but, I don't have as much hair.

If you got it from a licensed dealer, New York state law requires them to carry a minimum 30 day/3000 mile warranty. That's bumper to bumper.
To qualify for money back under the lemon law, it has to go back for the same problem recurring three times.
Either way they have to fix your truck.

In Ohio, you have three days, but sadly, you are notin Ohio, and you are well beyond three days. Best of luck to you.
