Compter Problem HELP

My computer will not shut down or Restart I have to push the button to turn it off I'm Running XP Media Center Edition I looked all over the Internet but can't find what I'm looking for Please help thanks

Sounds like a program is causing shutdown to hang.

Check your event logs.

Have it shutdown and while it's hanging/doing nothing take a look at which services are running in task manager. Look for ones that are using large CPU and Memory resources. Try manually ending some of there processes and see if stopping one of them gets the shutdown processes moving again.

I tried that and nothing I have no idea what to do

I know it's not an XP machine but Media Edition is based on XP home.

I have ran into this before with someone elses computer, I cant remember what I finally did to fix it. but there are literally hundreds of things that cause it ranging from the use of unsigned device driver to registery errors to bios.

I did a System Restore I guess that did it But its working now Knock On Wood
