? For Weight Lifter/ Gym Junkies on Danger
Yea before t his year we did them by what the teacher thought was 90 degrees. Then he went and bought some saftey squat beepers. Most peoples squat went down but mine stayed the same. My maxes has stayed the same. But since my max peak I have lost 15 pounds too. So basically I have maintained my muscles and lost some fat.
What do you guys powerclean? I don't understand how kids that don't lift nearly as much as me powerclean more than me? I have only been able to do 181 for a while now. I was lifting with a kid yesterday and he does 196 and we were doing his sets and I could do them. I know it is mostly in your form and I'll tell you I do mine all arms. Yesterday I started to stay lower. What muscle do you work in powercleaning?
Hearing about Lumadar's lifts motivated me to start paying attention to my legs again... I haven't worked on them at all since August (Other than the elliptical and exercise bike), and I haven't REALLY worked them (1,000 lbs +) since 1990/1991.
I started with 315 last week, moved up to 500 last night... Did 5 sets of 10.
It's been so long, it felt like that machine had me in "The Buck". It's tilted WAAAAY back. The one at the other gym I was going to, had a much gentler slope, and you didn't feel like you were resting on your traps to do leg-presses...
Anyhoo, 500 felt pretty good. I think I'll hang out there for a while...
After all, it's not like I'm playing football again... Too old to try out now anyway...

I was squating Saturday and noticed after the workout I had a broken blood vessel in my eye. This is about the third one in six months, WTH is up with that?

That happened to me before... I'd never have noticed if I hadn't been doing my Bernie Mac imitation in the mirror. That's when I noticed a big red spot above my pupil. Went to the doc, he said it was just a broken vessel, no danger, and should clear up in a few days...
I used to "clean" 225, but more than I hated doing leg curls, and squats- I severly hated doing clean & jerks. So, immediately upon conclusion of the last game of my Sr. year in high school, "clean & jerk" came off my list of weight lifting events.
I'd be embarrassed at where I'd have to start today. The last time I had that much weight over my head, is when I lifted a 220 lb (plus) man over my head, and body-slammed him (In front of the referee) on the football field.
That wasn't natural strength though, that was p!ssed off strength. Never had I lifted that much weight so easily, and effortlessly. It was like an out-of-body experience.
The funniest thing... The ref didn't even penalize me.
I kickbox. The funny thing is guys that spend their life at the gym on the weight machines come in all the time to try out kickboxing. Apparently they think being all big and buff translates to being bad azz in a fight. It is hilarious to see them ready for cardiac arrest after only one or two "two minute" rounds with a one minute rest between. We usually go 10 to 15 rounds depending on how many guys are there (round robin rotation). I'm gonna be 49 next Friday, I'm just average build and height (about 5'11 and 185lbs). I also play full court basketball (with a bunch of twenty year olds) once a week and get lots of running up and down the court for about three hours.
I'd rather just be in shape. No need to be all big and buff. Sooner or later you are gonna stop, then all that mass turns to flab. Just my opinion......

It's a bad stereotype to assume because we enjoy lifting weights that we have any desire to turn into meatheads either. I go to the gym solely to stay in shape, and get toned. I never have, nor never will try to get "huge."
Sure, I'm lifting massive weights with my legs, but I just have a genetic gift and I have to work with large weights to get any sort of challenge. My legs have become VERY toned and shaped from doing these workouts, but not huge and retarded looking.

Your probably right, I was making a bit of a sterotype. I do have a friend that spent a lot of time on the weights to bulk up. He spent a lot of time focusing on his arms and chest. He got huge. Eventually he stopped working out. He is now in his fifties, and could really use a "bro" (man bra)
