Couture Shuts out Sylvia to Win Third UFC Heavyweight Title ! ! !

He told us he saw something, that he looked at Tim Sylvia and saw opportunity, the chance to return to the top as a champion. At 43 years old, it was hard to believe, but who could doubt Randy Couture?'

Still, it seemed too much to overcome. He was giving up six inches, twelve years and forty pounds, and all that after sitting out on the sidelines for a year after retiring. Sure, it was Randy Couture, the man who'd made a living beating the odds. But this was too much for even him, wasn't it?

Of course not. "The Natural" shocked the mixed martial arts world, dominating a five-round decision en route to his third UFC heavyweight championship Saturday night at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

I didnt see that coming at all. Thought it was over in the first five seconds when he dropped Sylvia. Honestly I thought Sylvia was going to destroy Couture.

I thought Sylvia was going to KO Randy for sure. Tim's chin is suspect though. Who's next for Randy, Crocop? Arlovski? Monson?

I was telling people at work, "never count out Couture".

Yeah, Sylvia is a big strong guy with powerful hands and great take down defense, but never, EVER count out Randy. Dana White said it himself, "I'll never count out Randy Couture again".

It was a VERY impressive fight.

...and I cant believe Tim made the comment that he was coming off an injury. Maybe so, maybe he was...BUT, that was hardly the time nor place to make that comment.

I won $50 on this fight. The bet was Couture by knock out for $100 or by decision for $50.

If you go back & look at Tim Sylvia's last few fights, he never presses the action. He appears to me (I've fought in kickboxing & grappling matches) that he isn't really pressing the action, only looking to go the distance and get decision. NEVER let a fight go to the decision.

Anyone remember Oleg Taktorov? That's dude had really awesome fights. He's like some kind of alien. You simply cannot knock him out.

Best UFC knock out ever? Tank Abbot Vs Steve Nelmark. I thought Tank actually killed Nelmark. I hate Tank Abbot though, he has NO style or discipline at all which is why he was very easy to take down & submit.

KC-10 FE out...

Yeah his eyes was pretty much a mess! Great fight though. Crocop is a bad mother f'er and will be the next champ. I would prefer Randy retire as the champ and let whoever fight for the belt. Don't forget Randy is not a true heavywieght. He went up to fight Sylvia.
At any rate Randy Coutour is a great and humble champion!

I thought he retired? I hate it when someone retires and then comes back, retires and comes back...do it and be done with it.

I was impressed by Hughes. Not a really exciting fight but he was really impressive in sticking with his strengths and controlling the fight

Wow. He's back? Looks like a mini-vacation was all that he needed.
