Well, we were at Fort Hood for one year together. I was there Nov. 1995 - Dec. 1996, after spendign 2 other years there (April 1992 - Oct. 1994). I was right down the road from the hospital. I forget the name, Darnell or something like that, big yellow building.

I was in building 39052 on 62nd street, between Abrams Field house, and Tank Destroyer Blvd. My HQ was in 39050 and 39054. I ran the gauntlet, being assigned to both 57th and 16th Signal Battallion, 3rd Signal BDE.

We used to come down to the Meddac chow hall (the best on post) on Thursdays because they served "soul food" on Thursdays.

Ran III Corps track many a day for PT, and many a night for fun.

My wife and Uncle were both in 13th COSCOM. She was eventually assigned as the Editor of the Fort Hood Sentinel, then she became a part of III Corps. My Uncle CWO-3 Johnson was the Logistics Supply Cheif at 13th COSCOM until he retired in 1997 after 34 years on duty. He passed away in 1998, cancer.

You're right though. Fort Hood was just as big a dog & pony show as Fort Bragg. You really feel like you're doing a job when you're overseas. (Korea, Germany, etc...) At least the missions have a meaning to can not only feel, but see.

That is soooooo freakin' true... as much as I hate being away from my kids.... I feel deployments are when I do the most good in my role.... sure I see and treat patients day in and day out.... but to me, treating the soldiers is my most important job, dependents next....... I know that's not the PC term, but anyway....

the absolute most satisfaction i've had on the job was in iraq patching up soldiers

How do you Air Force folks spend SOOO much time in the States?

I've been looking over some of these, and I'm like damn, these guys "PCS" CONUS to CONUS?

Lucky...

If you were in the Army, you're gonna spend time in other countries, not just other states. Now, once you go overseas you can stay, almost indefinitely...

I've known people to go from E-1 to E-6 at the same post. It got to the point that the Army made this one girl (E6) leave Germany, and she was not happy. She had been on the same post for 12 years...

You hear of that once in a blue moon in the US, but when you do, it is an anomaly.

Same here. I was on MCAS Futena. (1371 - Combat engineer)

The thing I hated the most, was the humidity.

You'd watch a rain cloud come over, dump some rain, and move on over the island. After the sun came back out, you could actually watch the "steam" rising up from the streets. Of course this was on black flag days. Morning PT - when you walked out of the barracks, it was like opening the door to a suana...and this was about 6 AM.

Other then that, I loved the place.

I guess I'll add to this list. US Army since '02. Basic and AIT at Ft Jackson, SC. My MOS is 63B (Wheel Mechanic). I came in a PFC. Stationed at Ft Gordon, GA from Nov '02 to Jun '06. Promoted to SGT in Jan '05. Spent 12 months in southern Afgahnistan. Reenlisted to go to Ft Carson, CO in Jul '06. Currently serving another tour in Iraq. Should be back in Oct. Awaiting points to get picked up for SSG.

Dayum! Your're doing good... Only combat arms folks get promoted that fast. Must've had some college under your belt, or you've kicked **** and took names on correspondence courses.

I think in just say 10 years in the Army, I saw one mechanic get promoted to Sergeant. 63B's never got promoted. That was just like being in supply, E-1 to E-4, then call it a day.

I had 614 points on a 798 scale, (814 when it was 998) and it took my almost 2 years to get promoted, four years counting the time I had to wait for PLDC, and changing MOS's after I made promotable status.

A lot of my friends "cheated" though. copying Correspondance Courses, and submitting them to PAC as if they took the courses. 2 out of the 3 guys I knew who did that got caught, the other pinned on E-6 a few months before I got E-5, and we were E-4's together...

I shouldda ratted his ****...

My budy tells me they're giving away stripes now; letting people "re-enlist" for E-5 and E-6. I'm like, WTF mate? (That's how he got his 6, but he'd already been to BNCOC).

What I liked about it was that my barraks was about 100 yards from the beach. When it was time to get off, it was time to relax. Like I aid, I miss a lot about it, but when I was there, it wasnt that fun.
