SAS Programming

Anyone here know anything about SAS programming? I'm considering a career move. Is SAS a marketable skill generally speaking? I dont want to move into something that's useless elsewhere.

But you'd move to britan.....

The Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) is the principal special forces unit of the British Army.
or even worse.....

Welcome to our new and improved official SAS Scandinavian Airlines International website,
or you have

The Society for Amateur Scientists promotes science literacy by helping ordinary people become engaged in real-life science adventures.
or there is this field....

The Society for Applied Spectroscopy is a nonprofit organization formed to advance and disseminate knowledge and information concerning the art and science of spectroscopy, and other allied sciences, to advance the professional standing and growth of the Society and its members, to coordinate cooperative endeavors of its individual members and sections, and to promote and maintain a close bond among its members.
Something about that just dont sound right............

Then there is,

Surfers Against Sewage are an environmental campaign group
just ewwww.........

However if your talking .....

In computer hardware, Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is a computer bus technology primarily designed for transfer of data to and from devices like hard drives, CD-ROM drives and so on. SAS is a serial communication protocol for direct attached storage (DAS) devices. It is designed for the corporate and enterprise market as a replacement for parallel SCSI, allowing for much higher speed data transfers than previously available, and is backwards-compatible with SATA. Though SAS uses serial communication instead of the parallel method found in traditional SCSI devices, it still uses SCSI commands for interacting with SAS End devices. SAS protocol is developed and maintained by T10 committee. The current draft revision of SAS protocol can be downloaded from
that might be handy to know if you dont already......

but if your talking Business Intelligence and Analytics Software - SAS, then how much out of pocket are you talking to learn it and how much time?

Thanks Matt. (Business Intelligence and Analytics Software - SAS)

Education is unimportant. If I told my boss I wanted to move to the programming department it wouldn't be a problem. I dont think so anyway. I do have programming knowledge, just not SAS

The programmers basically convert data from our clients into our standard database format.

Well I guess, I dont know of any around here that actually have a department, but almost every person has to convert docs and data from customers and vendors on thier own for the rest of the company. Ussually the majority of it falls on the sales departments because they are the ones that deal directly with the customers. But most places here are manufacturers.
