WE usually sit down and talk about our day and laugh and stuff, and the kids know they can come talk to us about any of their problems or what they are feeling. It just made me realize that she's holding him back all the time by babying him and speakign up for him.
Yeah, it sounds like you need to have a heart to heart with your fiance. I hope all goes well.

BINGO!!! on occasion she has said those exact words. I could care less what he thinks of me, as I said we dont get along persoanlly. for the kids we will agree on things, but I wont donate him a kidney...know what I mean...

the whole situation is complicated as the enviroement over at the dads house is a bit edgey.. the kids are always grounded so stepmom doesnt have to deal with them (stepmom told this to my wife, because they arent "stepmoms" kids)...anyway, we have filed for full custody as we have joint with one week with us, and the following with them..thats stressful on the kids as well. And I understand that the punishments are different at our house vs theirs...they get spanked over there for not making A's on their report cards (kind of strict in my opinion) ...so I know he's scared that he's going to get a spanking and doesnt want one, but even if he doesnt want one, he still needs to speak in a clear understanding voice of what he was asked to say..

There's a judge that should get kicked square in the nuts.

I'm always late for the good stuff.

I agree with you (post #1).

I also agree with just about every post here.

I am somewhat in the same boat, and when the wifey does what your "wife" does I say, "Ok, you settle this, and when she (our daughter) falls on her butt, I'll just laugh and say I told you so.

-Just kidding, I wouldn't do that.

We would just talk about the issue after dinner. Once we (wife and I) have our "ducks in a row", we'd call the kiddo in the room, and we have a simple family discussion.

Part of it might just be a woman's ways too...

My wife and I have the same type of things come up on occasion and we have a straight forward situation.

She thinks I'm being too strict at times. I don't typically raise my voice and I only get angry if they are just ignoring us, etc.

On occasion there are times I think she is henpecking them too much. I don't think they need to be browbeat over everything.

We generally keep our comments to ourselves until the children are elsewhere.

Tough situation...

Family mealtime together is important. (Sharing, talking etc...)
Everyone should come to the table knowing it's going to be positive and upbeat.
If there is a downer issue, table it (pun intended) until later or before.
If an issue is revealed at the dinner table, addressing it later gives the adults a chance to compare notes, discuss their respective position and present a united front.
If everyone understands that the dinner table is a 'safe house' then the kids will still eat with you when they are teenagers.
Haha...you should feel for my parents. I'm the first one out of the house out of FIVE boys. I'm 19. The youngest is 5. They've got 13 years to go. But Dinty, I understand where your wife is coming from, my mother stands up for us all of the time when my dad is angry, usually about something stupid.
