Thinking of Buying an Edge
Thinking of Buying an Edge
My mom is in the market for a new car, and she really likes the Edge.
So now I'm here, to ask my fellow F150online members, is the Edge any good?
Does anyone own one, or have driven one?
I know there are usually problems with buying the first model run of a vehicle, but with a warranty I wouldn't be too worried.
Also, does anyone have any pricing info or an x-plan pin number or something? Are they dealing on the Edges, or is it pretty much sticker price?
Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated. She's looking at buying within the next few weeks. She wants one loaded to the gills. Pretty much everything except AWD.

I haven't gotten down to the dealership to look at one or drive one yet, but from what I've seen it looks really nice.
I took a look at the Edge... Rode with the guy in it, didn't have time to test drive it.
Even with the cloth seats, I think it's a very well put together SUV, strong, and deceptively roomy for an SUV that size...
This vehicle could WELL replace the Explorer as Ford's best selling SUV.
Like most crossover SUV's, this is based on a car chassis (Fusion) and the Fusio (We have one) is Super Nice, and has been problem free for the first 12 months of ownership... My Acura has had to have a belt tensioner replaced in it's first 12 months (squealing at start up)...
No car is "mechanically" bulletproof, but this (Fusion) is a solid first year vehicle from Ford, and a good bet that the Edge will be too.

Yep, we bought one...waiting for delivery. I was impressed with the fit/finish and styling. At MSRP I think it's a bit overpriced on the high end (we bought an SEL Plus w/Vistaroof, Navigation, 18" wheels, etc.) but at X-Plan with future rebates, I think it will do well. We got the X-Plan price just by asking, no negotiation or begging was necessary.
As for owning it when the warranty runs out, probably not a big deal for us, we'll likely replace it within a few years.

I'm just worried about reliability, because my mom will likely be keeping it for a while.

And the roof must be partially cut off to replace the moonroof track. Replacing the rear fixed glass is just like replacing a windshield, the adhesive must be cut with a sawzall looking thingy.
I really liked the Edge and MKX at first, I really did.

They don't just GIVE X-Plan away do they? It's a perk at my company- don't tell me they just give X-plan pricing to everybody...
Then again, I also get discounts on GM and Chrysler too.
I really kick myself for not going to look at that Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8.
The poor man's BMW X.5 4.8 IS; only faster...

The 3.5 uses a water pump under the timing cover driven by the timing chain, and using the wonderful "ten pounds of s@#% in a five pound bag" logics, there's not enough room to remove the timing cover with the engine in the vehicle. All major repairs are to be done with the engine removed.
