Yup, mostly.

Although I got a feeling that folks who decide to keep an Edge or MKX for the long term would be well off with an extended warranty or a good chunk of change in their savings account, for a "stuff happens" kinda fund.

The 3.5 uses a water pump under the timing cover driven by the timing chain, and using the wonderful "ten pounds of s@#% in a five pound bag" logics, there's not enough room to remove the timing cover with the engine in the vehicle. All major repairs are to be done with the engine removed.

To check the fluid level of the PTU in AWD vehicles, you've gotta make a dipstick with a zip tie - kinda cheesy on a $30K+ vehicle. I especially like this part about if the PTU is overfilled, and I quote: "There is no easy way to drain an overfilled PTU." Gee, thanks for the warning, guys.

And the roof must be partially cut off to replace the moonroof track. Replacing the rear fixed glass is just like replacing a windshield, the adhesive must be cut with a sawzall looking thingy.

I really liked the Edge and MKX at first, I really did.
Good lord....that is crazy.

Don't the engineers and designers take these sort of issues into consideration? Obviously not but why not is a better question.

If I read my employee benefits website correctly, I think that I am elligablr for x-plan pricing through my employer. So is x-plan a good price, or can I go lower? Well, I know you can always go lower, but if I can get it for x-plan should I just be happy?

When we first started speaking to the sales guy, we told him we would be purchasing on x-plan and he said great, they showed the invoice, with x,a & d-plan pricing. They did not ask for a PIN number until it came time to put down the deposit for the order. Seems like finding a PIN is very easy these days. Strange thing is, X-plan price was actually lower than the invoice price, and when it actually arrives in March I am figuring there will likely be a rebate.

Interesting sidebar...I think I went over this in my first Edge thread, but we can also purchase at GM Supplier pricing. We were very interested in the new GMC Acadia, but the local dealer told us it would be at least a year-and-a-half before his dealership would be able to honor that pricing. (their perrogative) We walked and within 3 phone calls to other GMC dealerships, we were given the Supplier price. Flash forward to last week, Carsdirect.com is already showing a $1000 discount of the Acadia (Edge is still at MSRP here) and a few days ago GMC announced an additional $500 rebate.

I called the GM at the dealership and asked him if he wanted to reconsider their stance and he asked me to come back in. I told him that we already bought an Edge and that his saleman BS lost them a real potential sale and that he should reconsider his tactics when dealing with someone who actually understands the industry. I also let him know that his competition offered us the discount immediately. He was completely silent, then hung up on me.

Yeah, I'm really LOVING the turn of events that the auto market is going through... I don't usually wish anyone any ill-will, and in 2000- I had no idea this series of fortunate events would last 7 years, but you know what- *******'em!

Things have gone:

From: Can you get another $1,000 for a down payment?

To: You don't have to put anything down.

From: You're too far upside down for us to get you out of that vehicle.

To: We'll discount our vehicle the amount you're upside down, to get you out of that vehicle.

From: We're not going to miss your business. (Showcase Chevrolet, 635 & Tollway)

To: We're not gonna loose your business over a few thousand bucks.

From: We can't find anyone to finance you.

To: Don't second guess your credit, we can get ANYONE financed.

So, *******'em!!! Wrestle them to the ground, put'em in a head lock, and squeeze every booger out of their nose- when negotiating... I'm just pissed I bought my first 2 cars at MSRP. I didn't know you could negotiate on the price. I mean, you don't go to Wal-Mart and negotiate on that new TV. Now that I know, I'll haggle until I either get what I want, or the deal is taken off the table.

The BEST TIME TO USE X-PLAN, is when you see Ford is taking $5,000 off F-150, $8,000 off Expedition. BECAUSE, you get that extra money off, in addition to your X-Plan. You get all the incentives applied, AFTER your X-plan price.

My Expedition was $44,000. X-Plan brought it down to like, $38,000. There was a $3,000 Dealer rebate, and a $5,000 Ford rebate. Which took my price down to $29,000 and some change on a loaded (Except Navigation) Eddie Bauer Expedition. If I had taken the $5,000 rebate, I'd have been financed at 6.9%, but if I let them keep the $5,000 I got 0.0% financing. I took the 0.0%. I was upside down about 3-4 grand too, so I financed about $37 - 38,000 plus TTL for 60 months.

Long story short, I drove off the lot (after 3 days of haggling) in my new Expedition, with a payment of $605 / month.

Most folks driving Eddie Bauer Expeditions (Unless they put a chunk of change down) are paying well north of $700 a month.

Not me... I'll haggle the crap out of them. Why? Because I don't wait until I NEED a car to go look for one. Which means, I have time- I can negotiate for days... You will not out-wait me.

I shop when I don't need a car. If they make me a good deal, I'll trade- if not, I'll walk... If you wait until you NEED a car, you'll probably get introduced to "Ben" at some point.

I was really surprised to see Ford offering X-Plan pricing on the Edge already. It's usually a year or so before they'll do that.

One of the funniest things this sales manager used as a tactic was to say something to the effect of "if you really like the Acadia, isn't it worth paying full MSRP?" I responded with, "you would have to be a complete and utter idiot to pay $3000 more than you have to when you have pre-negotiated pricing available to you. Just because your dealership won't honor it doesn't mean no dealerships will honor it." (one of the good things about knowing something about this industry is recognizing when the BS is being flung)

Hersh, I don't think the dealership has to honor their rebates or promotional offers with X-Plan purchases, but they do have to honor the manufacturer rebates and/or finance offers.

You know your local Ford dealer is hurting when my sales guy calls me up the other day and says "Hey, I see your 2002 Explorer is going to be paid off at the end of the month, how about stopping down and taking a new 07 for a drive? I haven't talked to him since I bought our F-150 back in May of 2006. I swear some sales guys are like herpes, they just keep coming back.

Actually, I like my sales guy as he has always treated me fair and I like the dealership. It just ticks me off that now he has me thinking about a new one when I had my mind all made up to drive this one for another year.

Damn, his tactic worked. Hersh, go kick his ***.

Hell I took the Ranger into one dealership to get the bumper bracket replaced after I was rear ended. That was in 02, I still get **** in the mail about their special offers.

One of my friends is bad for listening to their BS, when he bought his POS Monte Carlo he went in to look at a Blazer for about $10,000. Came out with a $28,000 car. He was thinking about ditching that thing last fall for an F150. So I went with him this time (I dont play their games) and we were looking at a 2001 2WD, well I left for 5 minutes to grab a coffee across the street and by the time I got back this guy had him sold on a 4WD for $8,000 more. Feeding him lines like "We dont just want to sell you a vehicle we want to get you family friends etc into a good one too, and keep you happy for life" I told him to give my buddy a few minutes and got him the hell outta there. I do my shopping at "Bob's" or "Jim's" used car lots lol.

The dealer my uncle and aunt have bought all their vehicles from will do damn near anything. Even for used, if he doesnt have exactly what you want he will get on the phone and find one wholesale. Goy my uncle an 05 Sport Trac last year for 10,000 less than a new one. Thing was a test model with only 1500 on it. I went there when I was bought the Explorer, and the sales guys there are very up front and dont jerk you around. Didnt have anything in my price range, so I told him what I was looking for. He called me back two days after I bought one already.

No, they don't have to honor theirs... But, when it says "Factory Cash back"

Booyaka!

I'm on the fence now... Since I went to look at the Edge, North Central ford has called me 4-5 times in the last two days- tryign to get me to buy something. I told them I wasn't in the market (Because I know around October, Ford will take $5,000 off, then I can use my X-plan, and get a decent payment) They're like- Come on in, we'll get you fixed up, you don't have to wait 'til the end of the year...

You know it doesn't take much to get me to the dealership.

But, one of the reasons I also want to wait is because the new Buick Enclave will be out (The more luxurious brother of the Acadia), and I've been watching this ride develop for well over a year now... I've been meaning to go sit in an Acadia to see if it's gonna be big enough. I've head it's a "Tahoe sized" cross-over SUV. Sounds big enough.

I'm just a little nervous about getting another GM, having gone 0 - 2 in reliability.

If you can wait them out you always win. When I bought the Explorer, the guy said "his manager" wouldnt budge on the price. Well I just drove off, 3 hours later he called back and I told him I wasnt sure, ended up getting it for almost a $1000 less than they wanted. And way below book value

Well I drove the Edge, and I am definitely getting one for my mom.
I just contacted 14 different Ford dealers through the Ford website and told them I have an x-plan PIN and am contacting all the dealers from Tampa Bay to Citrus county. I asked for their best price. Now I just wait for the prices to roll in.
Has anyone ever gotten an internet price through the website? How did it go? Do they still try to screw you once they get you in the door even though they already gave you a price?

I didn't buy a Ford but I did buy a Honda through the Internet. It was great. Played the dealers against each other and made them type out exactly how the money broke out, vehicle, taxes, fees, etc.

Once I was happy I printed it out went over and bought it.

It's based on the Mazda 6 platform, and every car on that platform; Mazda 6 & CX-9, Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ & MKX have been well reviewed and considered excellent vehicles.

We might trade the Fusion for an Edge...

Wife likes it...

If they make us a good deal, we might...
She's also thinking about another Pathfinder (Her favorite SUV).

She loves trucks- That's yet another plus for marrying an Army girl!

Ironically, for someone who drover Hummers (H1) for a living, she doesn't like the H2. You can imagine how pissed I was after buying a new MDX ($43,000) and 2-4 weeks later, seeing the local Hummer dealer was selling them for $38,000...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I got the MDX cheaper than MSRP (Which is rare for Acrua/Honda) But you KNOW GM will negotiate. May have nailed that bad boy for $35K. Then again, my neighbor might have thought I was farking with him, after he went to get one, and the deal fell through.

Seems out of 14 dealers I contacted so far no one is really willing to go below x-plan on the Edge. I guess because it's quite popular they're not dealing. I know there's not a lot of room to negotiate on the x-plan, but they knocked a few hundred off of it when I bought my truck.
