The Exige is cheap. In the long run, it may get moving, but lacks the muscle that other cars in it's class have. Why not a Porsche 911 GT3? It's only slightly more expensive.
It's got a faster 0-60, 0-100, in the quarter mile, in top gear and has a higher top speed. The inline 6 is twice the size of the Toyota inline 4 and is naturally asperated where the Toyota 4 is supercharged. Then, if you wanted something "different" give the Noble M400 a look.It uses a version of the Ford 3.0 V6, but is twin turbocharged. It's faster than the Porsche in many aspects. Most people have never heard of it, never mind seen one.The Mustang is a cool car but compared to other auto makers offerings lacks a lot of things. The Corvette Z06 seems like it would be more of a "sports" car than the Mustang. A C6 will walk all over a GT500, imagine what the Z06 will do.
It seems to me that you're selling yourself short. Don't be cheap. Spend the money on something good.
I am poor. I think a good poor mans "sports" car would be:

This is a Factory Five GTM. I know it's cheap. Probably about 70K, but it will beat most cars, even ones costing three times as much.
Been down to the southern tip of Chile. The only way to drive is though Argintina. Snow in the winter and cool summers with winds. Did I say windy?
some pretty good roads but, most are passable. Punta Arenas and Tierra De fuego are intersting places. One of the safer places in that country, or was when I was there 7 years ago.
going as a diesel mechanic? what part?
