Snow Days

In Ohio we get five "snow days"(in actuallity called "calamity days") without penalty. What do you all have in other states? After our fifth snow day, we have to make them up at sometime. Many schools on the east side of Cleveland had a day off today due to the horrible weather. (The east side is called the snowbelt, as it gets blasted with lake effect snow.) We, on the west side, don't get nearly the snow, but it is still cold---12 degrees at 10:00PM. We woke up to five inches today, but the roads were pretty good and school was still in sesion.

Just wondering how other states manage the days off due to inclement weather.

Hey Other Neighbor!!:santa:

I graduated high school in 2005 and I still found myself looking at the bottom of the screen this morning for "North Ridgeville City Schools - Closed"
They just said on the news a few minutes ago that over 100 schools were closed today. Only got like 3 inches of snow here last night though. Snowbelt definately got pounded, I envy them. Hope theres more coming.
At least I can look forward to Lorain County Community College being closed I guess, even though I go at night.

I live on OH 252 up near Sprague Road and it was clear---Rt. 82 was sloppy this AM, though. It is really snowing now, and they are saying more is to come---east side up to another foot of snow...

Just a few idjits in the ditch on the way this AM. By 10this morning all were clear.

I have a 4X4 with the 5.4. I just use about 250 lbs of sand right over the rear axle. Nothing drastic. Don't want to weigh down the rear end toomuch for the 4X4 times.

If I'm not mistaken, down here we aren't allowed any inclement weather days. When there are days off due to bad weather, the school districts either take away unimportant holidays ( ) or they tack on the days to the end of the school year. That's what I remember anyways.

I'm not sure about the school system here as I no longer have kids in school. When we lived in Cordova, Alaska they never had "snow days" 99% of the kids walked to school or were driven by parents so there was never a need for a bus to get through. The only thing school was ever cancelled for was power outages.

5 sounds about right for Maryland and 6" would have closed for 2 days.

But...

Calamity days?

Being a little dramatic aren't we? (not you personally)

I mean is snow really a disaster? Politicians are funny.

Climate days? LOL. We have 0. I dont think I've ever got time off for anything less than a foot of snow.

Did I mention this weekend is going to be the 7th weekend in a row with a snow storm? SIGH

In Kentucky if they even forecast snow they call it off, today there are a handful of counties out for snow and its hardly done anything this year to write home about. Last week we had less than a centimeter (dusting) the weather man said and they called school, sure it covered the roadways a bit but by 10:00 its was all gone.

Around here people go ape sh** when they think of snow, this Thursday there is a chance of "measurable snow" and the news people are all over it, its the Top Story, and the snow that has yet to come, with all the media hype things start closing, schools have early dismissal in case it gets bad.
