"But here's one of the oddest Prius stories on file at ConsumerAffairs.Com:"

Key word here is, one.

Sounds just like the traction control system Daimler Chrysler was using in their cab-forward cars not so long ago (I don't know how it compares to todays cars, since I haven't test-driven one yet). I test drove an Intrepid, and the guy switched the traction control on and told me to "floor it". It was bone dry, all of 100 degrees, and I did what he said- floored it coming out of a turn, and that SOB moved at about 6 MPH. I asked what was up with that, he said the system reduces engine output to the wheels to eliminate wheel spin to give you better control on wet and/or icy roads.

Some people exaggerate- "all" to this guy might mean 80% of the power was lost. But yes, it sounds just like the system the Intrepid had in it.

The 1999 Mustang GT had traction control or whatever teh Ford version was... I didn't notice a loss of power on either setting. All I know is, I couldn't do a smoky burnout with it on or off.

Nope sorry but this is a true design flaw. And no they do not move at all. Check out the recalls steering - tires - brakes and now "no power" to wheels on dirt and sometimes the battery dischages all the way after parked for 2 weeks. Airport towing loves them.

I don't care who made it but if it was a Ford it would be front page news.

not nearly as big, or dangerous as that pesky little truck/house/life issue we had on our trucks...

None are perfect, but I doubt Ford wants to start measuring d**cks with Toyota on vehicle line quality...
