Ah, the glory days of NASCAR. Back when it was worth watching... as said before, its all about the money, just like all other pro sports... and IMHO boring as hell...

I'm kind of a Chevy/Mopar/Ford (in no particular order) fan, so I won't be pulling for Toyota's money...

I see. So you're OK with this turd? Dodge destroyed the name along time ago. http://www.retrojunk.com/details_commercial/421/
Personally, I'd rather drive a Volare w/ a 225.

Or maybe this bad mama jamma : http://chargersk.tripod.com/id6.html

Yep. Dodge bent the Charger name over the barrel and drove it home. At least Pontiac was nice enough to put a V8 behind the GTO name when rehashed.

I love the old Chargers, but it was shameful for Dodge to use the namesake try and make a buck off of crap cars during the OPEC years.

Actually bought it for the wife, I had a 72 F100 Ranger XLT at the time.

I bet they win a couple

Don't forget that the COT will put all of the teams on "equal footing". Not just from a design perspective, but the teams' notes for the tracks will not be applicable. So, for a few races, Toyota has as good of chance of winning as any of the "old" teams.

I have mixed feelings about Toyota. On one hand, I think there is just something "wrong" about an Asian automaker running in NASCAR. On the other hand, racing might actually be more fun now that we have someone to really hate!

I think you'll see some of the same vitriol for Toyota that you see for Gordon or some of the other drivers right now. That is actually good for the "spectacle" of racing -- great rivalries make any sport better!

To be honest, I have more issues with the COT than I have with Toyota. It's kind of fitting that in the year Toyota joins the circuit, NASCAR makes the cars look like a bunch of "ricers".........

The teams may be on equal footing with the cot only to a point. Toyota does not have a proven Cup engine. Rumors are that they just 'beefed up' the truck engine. That may or may not work. I believe Dodge went through the same woes
when they got back in there. Toyota will not compete if their motors don't hold up. Bristol is a very tough race to win. The cars are tortured for the entire race.
The motor has got to be bulletproof to win there. I don't think it will take them long to get a motor that's strong and reliable, though. It just might be after Bristol.

No - I don't want to see Toyota successful in NASCAR.

I personally am a diehard Jeff Gordon fan, although I hate Chevrolet. I know, but I don't care if He drives a school bus, I'll pull for him. I was the same way with Ernie Irvan. Didn't matter what make or model, I pulled for him.
Another Ernie Irvan fan! I must say though, if Ernie drove for Toyota, I would of stopped supporting him and changed my user ID.

The tracks like Michigan and Atlanta are harder on the engines than Bristol - the constant high RPMs w/ out letting off takes its toll on the motors more than short tracks. The drivers are what tear the cars up at Bristol.

Go 20 car!

The COT and Yota are ruining the sport. Not to mention I think the new network is going to blow. Will the announcers come over with NASCAR or is it an entirely new crew?

I know that Michigan is harder on engines than bristol. I was saying that the first race with the COT is at Bristol, and that Toyota maybe at a disadvantage because of their unproven engines.

That picture rocks! I loved Ernie! I got to meet him in 1992 at Darlington. My dad won a free trip, and we got to go in the pits to meet Ernie, take pictures, check out the car, get autographs, etc. It was the coolest thing I ever did. He dominated the race, until near the end, when Earnhardt caught him and I think he won. Then, in 1999, Ernie decided to retire the friday before the Darlington race, which I was going to. I was so pissed off that I almost threw the tv, when I heard the announcement. Then, I think it was Jerry Nadeu that drove the car that sunday. He wrecked the car down the backstretch, and I went around the outside of the track to see the wrecked car before they hauled it off. It still had Ernie's name on it. I tried to get a piece off of it, but the security guard got there first. Some other people got parts, though. Ernie rocks!
