Where did you learn to fight?
Where did you learn to fight?
As men, I know most of us go into situations feeling like we're going to kick someone's a__. I think that's a side effect of the testosterone coursing through our veins and brains. I'm sure most of us has been defeated at least once in a fist fight. I lost one, no if ands or butts about it, and I've had a few draws.
I didn't really learn how to fight, and have no real skill at it (other than brute strength) but, I've whipped a decent share of butt in my youth, and could probably apply a decent butt whipping to someone if the need arose. I'm just wondering, where did you guys learn how to fight?
My step dad taught me a few moves, but I learned the hard way. (With him kicking my butt). We had boxing gloves and everything. We'd go at it, he'd pepper me with a combination or two, but I was trying what he had taught me. One day, around 6th grade, he wanted to fight, so he said- "Go get the gloves" And I was like "Damn". So, I got the gloves, and we started fighting, right in the kitchen... He had about a 4-6" height advantage on me, not to mention the reach. So, He was winning, as he normally did- but this time, he was really hurting me with some of the hits. This ***-whipping was "different".
So, I couldn't get a good hit on him, but he was ducking & dodging, and tuning me up. I lost it and started swinging, and jabbing and punching, and started gettign a few hits in. All of a sudden, my right had drew back to the coast of California, and he zigged when he should have zagged, and >>BAM<<. Blood went flying, as his lip was severely busted with a well-placed gloved right hand. My Mom screamed, and he looked at me... His whole look changed. I thought... I'm about to get my *** whipped for real now.
He took his gloves off. Told me "Good hit", and went to the bathroom to clean up. I'm standing there, gloves still up, and Mom and I looking at each other...
That was the last time we "fought".
So, I have strength to spare, can take a hit, a decent jab, and a solid right hand. But when I look at UFC, I don't know if I met one of these jokers on the street, that the outcome would be a draw or in my favor (unless they did something real stupid). That's what made me ask- who taught you guys how to fight, and how confident are you in your skills if push comes to shove on your home's mean streets?
What would you "not" do to win a street fight?
Where do you draw the line?
If biting a plug out of a guy, or slugging him in the jewel bag kept him from choking or beating you to death- would you do it?
Sometimes I wish Plano/Richardson had a boxing gym. I'd like to get in "boxer" shape, even if I never had to hit anyone...

I didn't I suck.
I've been in a few and by that I mean 3. 1 decent one and 2 stupid little events. I did well in the one fight until I got jumped by his two friends after I beat him one on one.
I won't run or back down but fighting isn't my thing.
However, if and when I get into a fight I'm there to win. I don't have any particular rules. My Bro-In-Law who loved to fight always said if you knock a guy down, let him get up, you did it once you can do it again.
Well if I was lucky enough to knock him down I'm sure as heck not gonna let him get up. I'll kick, stomp, you name it. I'm not trying to prove I'm a better fighter, chances are, I'm not. I plan on walking away.

I learned from "the field house". Everyday there was a fight.....and I was always in the mix.
Then came the Marine Corps.......fighting all the time......but it was for fun then.
Now, I try not to....but....I can only take so much before I have to relieve some stress.

Screw those arbitrary rules...if I'm fighting someone, it ain't cause I like them.
I have yet to swing on someone first.
I know it aint' cool or tough but hey neither am I.

I learned from kick boxing. I took it since the age of 11. I would like to learn Maui tai fighting or Krav Maga.

I think jamzwayne's sig holds the key. A sword holds no strength unless the hand has courage.
If you're easily intimidated that's a big strike against you. My dad always told me if you know you're going to fight get the first shot, and hit their nose if at all possible.
EDIT: My dad also told me no matter how tough you are there is always someone out there who can kick your a~~. I guess that goes hand in hand with 'no matter how hot she is someone is sick of her ****'

Only been in one since HS. Ive had guys running their mouths and threating me but they would never actually do anything. People just dont want to **** with me for some reason. Im not really that big, about 6'1 210
Last one I was in was because my buddy got into one at a bar and beat the **** outta this guy and his "boys" decided to show up and one of them sucker punched me. Well, he got one more shot till I grabbed his arm and busted his jaw with one hit. Had three of his "gangsta" friends come at me but they only managed to get two in. Stupid wanna be thugs

I can only think of a few things that could get me into a fight now.
Talking and running your mouth wouldn't do it. I can walk away from that.
Hurt or try to hurt my wife, kids, or family and I'd fight in a second...there are other situations I'm sure but not many.
