Where did you learn to fight?
In a true street fight, for me, anything goes, what ever it takes to win…
If it’s some type of mugging (someone mugging me) I am going to do everything in my power until the other person is not moving anymore or twitching really weird…
If it’s in a ring, then fine, there are rules, other then that it is the “smartest” that survive because sometimes the strongest are too stupid to know what’s going on…
I remember in the Navy how comical it was to see drunks get brave and want to kick someone’s butt who was NOT drunk. Under normal circumstances they were the stronger opponent but because of their stupidity they got their @ss handed to them, by me a few times…

Absolutely, I think there is a difference between fighting and defending oneself. Physically they are the same but the difference is in the mental state at the time.

I consider any struggle a fight, to contend in any manner; strive vigorously for or against something

I think you are right liguistically there is no difference between defending oneself and instigating a fight. I guess my issue is one of self respect and honor. I think it is somehow more honorable not to start the fight. I think it takes a bigger person to walk away and try to use diplomacy, but when push comes to shove, you are right... a fight is a fight.
I see a lot of "I'll do what ever to win"
Well, I don't wanna fight any of you guys.
Whatever happened to a good ol fight? Fair, one on one, to settle a situationj (whatever that maybe)? That's exactly why you hear about people getting shot these days. Another reason I have calmed down. people are morons. Kids these days dont have the go-nadds to stand up and take it like a man. When I was growing up, that's how two men settled their differences...these days, they call their lawyers.
This country is turning into a bunch of ghey rainbow loving sissies.

Two boys can settle their differences with a fight. However as an adult you have a responsibility to act like one. Getting in a fight as an adult should be a measure of last recourse. I don't need to fight someone to get over something, shake and then be best buds.
I can talk it out or just walk away. If I need to fight now, its because of something serious and when we are done I won't like you then either.
Pansy or not, I'm not fighting but if I have to I'll win; if that means biting, eye gouging or whatever so be it.

That was why my wife would not let me get a concealed weapon permit. I try to talk it out, and am nearly always sucessful. But there have been rare occasions when the other side just did not want to talk and when backed into a corner, I will sometimes react with out thinking. Like when the we were out walking late one night and some kids buzzed us in a pickup, forced us to jump aside into a ditch. They came back a second time and I jumped just far enough to knock off his mirror with my fore arm. Had a nice bruise but it was worth it, they did not come back a third time. There are times you just have to act, the other person will not listen or give discussion a chance.

I won't fight unless someone throws the first punch. Also if they threaten or hurt my family or friends, it's on. Smart azzes and trash-talkers can go on with their bull shizzle until they turn blue in the face. That won't provoke me. But it sure is fun to trash-talk back.

This is EXACTLY why I never bought a gun. I have the same kind of attitude. Cool guy, till you push the wrong button. There are times when I've gotten angry enough to do something stupid. So, for me- the best thing to do is limit my choices for response.
The one time I was mad enough to shoot/kill someone, happened in Marshall, TX the day before Thanksgiving, 1993. I was on my way home and remembered the lotto was huge that weekend, and I hadn't bought a ticket. So, I stopped on Highway 59 at that Total station. While sitting in my car, this idiot in his F-150 (Circa 85 model) whom I didn't see because I had my head down. Backed into my car at what seemed like a great deal of speed. >>>WHAM!!!<< I remember thinking, "WTF!", so I look back, and I see the truck on my right rear quarter panel, I hopped out of the car, and saw the driver looking over their shoulder, and there were two other people in the truck.
I guess they looked at my size, and the look on my face, and instead of staying, they put it in drive, and rolled out... Hit 59, and hauled *** south. In that instant, if I'd had a gun, they would have never made it, because I would have sprayed that truck.
Thank GOD I didn't have a gun that day, because there would have been 1 - 3 dead kids, over hitting my Chevy Cavalier. I didn't even try to chase them, but had the presence of mind to get the license plate number. I walked around to survey the damage (which had to be atrocious, right?) all they did was break my side marker light ($12.00), and I had a few superficial scratches on the plastic bumper. No damage to the metal.
That made me feel even worse (for wishing I had a gun), because they'd have been dead or critically injured over nothing, aside from pissing me off by running from me.
I called 911, the police came, I gave them the license plate for what amounted to a hit & run. This emmer-effer, instead of taking action, told me.
The man I am today wouldn't have settled for that, but I guess in the shock of being utterly dismissed by the local police to what was a crime against me, caused me to just let it go. Today, I wouldn't rest until justice was served.
That's got to amount to at least 40 hours of community service.
But, it's good my choices for response were limited, because if I'd had a gun, I'd be in prison now, never having owned an F-150. Over what amounted to a few seconds of extreme anger, and $12.00 in damage to my car...

- This truck is registered to someone in south Texas, near Houston.
- Your vehicle isn't badly damaged
- You would be in better shape not to pursue this, and just go get your car fixed out of your pocket.
The man I am today wouldn't have settled for that, but I guess in the shock of being utterly dismissed by the local police to what was a crime against me, caused me to just let it go. Today, I wouldn't rest until justice was served.
- Hit & run
- Fleeing the scene

Funny, I see so many guys carrying knives, but wonder how many are willing to use them?
I've also used a baton and a large flashlight on a few people. Wrestled quit a few to get them in cuffs. That seems to be my biggest 'fight' threat. Not many want to go toe to toe with a 6'-4" 240 in tactical gear.

I put a piece of wood on my shoulder and dare them to knock it off.
If they do then I draw a line in the dirt with my toe and dare them to step across.
If they do that then I run like a ****.
