Bottom line, if you treat an animal that way, you deserve to be tortured. That animal has feelings too.
I look at animals as babies, they cant take care of themselves when they are in a confined area (house, pen, etc) ... so, it's the owners responsibility to care for that animal just as you would have to care for a baby.
