Show us your towing hitch...

I just want to see how many of us even bought an F-150 equipped to tow a trailer, or how many of us added the tow bar after market to be able to tow...

I walked the lot at Middlekauf Ford when I got my truck, and noticed that most of the trucks on the lot didn't come with the tow package... It's just making me wonder how many of us truly use 50% of the capability the truck is capable of.

With the ball on the bumper, I know it can do light towing (Jet ski's, motorcycles, etc..) that's not "Towing" in my book. When I think towing, I'm thinking 5,000 lbs and up. Something that you won't forget is behind you.

Just curious...

PS- I had them on my old trucks, only because I wanted a place to add my "Ford" hitch cover- I thought it looked nice! $200+ dollars to add on a $19.00 trailer hitch cover, (Twice) , because I thought it looked nice... Damn... It came on my 2003 Expy, because it had the towing package.

The '99 and the 06 didin't have one...

Of the vehicles shown, only the 2000 Expedition ever towed anything, a 6 x 12 U-Haul trailer loaded with thousands of pounds of crap. For the first 30-40 miles the tranny did a lot of hunting, but- once it found whatever it was looking for, she passed everything but a gas station, 4.6L V-8...

Mine came with the tow package. I tow boats with it, and the occasional 8' trailer.

I have a ball on mine right now. I don't tow often...trailer to the mountains, dump, ATVs, etc but I use it mostly for protecting my rear bumber from idiots who can't park. They hit the ball, screwup their front end and my truck is fine.

Mine didn't come with one. I added it for $115, plus the 2" drop and now a ~5" drop.

$115.00?

Dayum! I got raped twice by Joe's in Plano!
Both times were over $200

Then again, everything is cheaper in San Antonio compared to Dallas... Even gas... (Which is why that Tan SuperCrew was purchased at Red McCombs in San Antonio, because the Dallas dealers wouldn't budge from $29,900. We got it at Red's for $23,999 in 2001.

***************************************

Something told me to go to U-Haul, but Joe's was conveniently located, plus they did all of my work (Except the dual exhaust, I always get that done at Pronto Muffler in Plano)...

Now they've left Plano, which is a good thing... I've saved a lot of money on accessorizing this truck because I'll be damned if I'm gonna drive all the way down to their Dallas location.

But on that tan truck (Arizona Beige) above, everything you see on it from an accessory stand point, was bought at Joe's Hitch & Trailer.

I miss ya Joe, come back to Plano- so my truck can look better!

Added mine plus a B&M transmissin cooler, think I'm going to add an electric fan to the cooler beofre spring.
I tow boats, a pickup bed trailer that I use for everything that I dont want in my truck, (Ie junk, scrap metal, gravel, rock, etc) Then I borrow my neighbors 16' flat bed on occasion and have towed numerous cars with it, as well as furniture, appliances, a bobcat, a Massey Fergason 20 hp tractor and bush hog, and anything else I need to move. I also pull my dads 18' stock trailer and have used to carry metal.

Three out of four....

All three have chrome Reese covers.
The two Ford covers are fine but the Toyota cover had a problem rusting.
I swapped it with the one on the truck and then that one started rusting.

It must be because it sticks out a little farther in the 'elements' ?
Strange because it's a factory hitch.

$200 sounds right to have it installed, I did it myself so that's probably where the savings came from.

Don't get me started on Red.
(SaJeffc, if you work for Red...no offense )

$200!!!!

I went to the salvage yard, picked on up for $35.
They cut the bolts to get it off so went and spent another $10 or so on 8, 1/2" grade 8, anodized bolts washers and 8 grade 8 anodized neoprene nuts.

Install took maybe 15 mins.
I put it on a floor jack, pushed the jack under, raised it to the frame, all late models already have the holes in the frame so lined them up and put the bolts in.

Did the same thing on my old jeep cherokee, same salvage yard, $35. Cherokee's have a box frame and you have this plate wit hnuts welded on it you have to slide in and try to line up. I said screw that, I didnt have time to come home and install it, I needed to pull a box trailer full of instruments and sound equiment (I managed a rock band) and was suppose ot meet a guy in an hour. So went to a local weld shop, gave them $20, they put it on a floor jack raised it up, zip zap, 5 mins it was glued to the frame. That thing will never move!
