Cable vs. Satellite

OK---so Time-Warner raised its rates (Now that's something unexpected!) We are considering switching to a satellite dish. Anybody here makethe switch--gofrom cable to a sat---or from a sat to cable? We also have DSL through what was Adelphiia and is now Tim-Warner. Is it worth it to switch?

I've been a Dish-Network customer for 6 years. I would never consider going back to cable.

KC-10 FE out...

I had Charter cable for many, many years, their rates were out of control rate-hike wise, so I went with Dish Network. I liked it, but their customer service was not very good and their receivers were inferior to even the cable receivers, so I switched to Directv. I like Directv, and I have an original Tivo unit that they came out with as a sign on perk, wife loves it. The only bad thing with satellite service is tall rainclouds and thunderheads interfere with the reception, but the sattelite dish is better than the cable IMHO.

I have had DirecTV for years. Would not go back to cable, unless it was ALL digital. Do I like everything the satellite companies do or are forced to do, no. But overall I much prefer there service over cable. I also get OTA, so even if the dish were to go out, I would have some kind of service.

One of the cool things with satellite is get another dish for the Trailer, R.V., cabin, etc. And when you go just grab your box

Directv+Tivo=happiness. Even when I worked for Adelphia, I had Directv. However, I might try the new Verizon FIOS TV service. It's pretty sweet, and I would get the employee discount .

RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!

I have a tri-pod and a dish that I take when going hunting.

We usually set the TV and box up under the awning of our camp trailer (a beat up old '68 model Shasta, ugly as hell but dry and comfortable).

After a day of hunting we sit by the camp fire, drink beer and watch college football!!!!!!

I have had Dish Network for 5 years and love it.
I hear Direct is as good or better.

Went from Charter Cable to Dish Network because of outrageous rate hikes and absolutely awful customer service. I have experienced some bad service from Dish also. If Charter hadn't raised their rates so much I'd still be there. They went up ~ 30%. Moderate to rain doesn't affect my signal. Heavy rain does more than half the time. It goes out when I have severe (tornadoes) storms though. Which sucks, I want to see the weather. If Charter rates come back down, I'll probably switch back.

Went from *** digital cable with DVR to Dish HD with DVR... I love the picture... amazing. I've only had one problem with service and that was during Tech's bowl game last week... it kept cutting out with the rain. That's the only downfall.

I have had Dishnetwork for about 6 years, middle package + outdoor channel 45 bucks a month. The only time I have outage is when there are severe lightning storms. Wind, sleet, snow, ice, none of that has ever effected it.

If they had cable where I live i would probably switch to it, as it would be easier to use the vcr (no DVR here) I now have a vcr and a vcr/dvd in order to watch my locals (which come through my analog antenna) and tape something from my dish or visaversa, I need a butt load of cables and a couple of splitters and a couple AB switches. Also with cable would be a broadband connection, instead of this damn dialup.

I have had direct tv now for about 8 years and would never go back to cable myself. You also go more HD channels with sat. than you do with cable. The DVR is awesome, I think we have maybe 10 -12 movies recorded, a football game and WWE and I still have about 49% of my space left. not to mention the ability to pause a tv show. I thought I would not use it when I my freinds here had advised me to get it but I love it.

Went from dishnetwork to Direct TV.

I am happy mostly, we had been a dish network customer for 5 years, We wanted to upgrade our equipment, add 3 more rooms and they wanted us to pay $600 + a 18 month commitment, after 6 months of trying to get somethign done to get what I want, I called Direct told them what I want, teh ysaid sure, just sign a year contract and the rest is free. I said sign me up, the yinstalled it teh saturday before christmas, I called dishnetwork and told them to kiss my **** and merry christmas.

We have Comcast Digital Cable and Direct TV at my house. If you set your dish up right you won't have problems with signal. DTV is what I am going to go with when I get my own place.

Just bit the bullet and went satellite this past weekend. The push was the
42" Plasma HD I just got. Cable wanted nearly $800 for two receivers and satellite only cost me $150. A couple of our friends have the same system I've got now and they are happy as can be. I'll find out soon enough. The installer comes with the dish and gear Friday.
