I am not leasing because I have an old D-Tivo that I purchased years ago and my original Gen 1 RCA receiver but everything they currently offer is leased. Like you said it is right there in black and white "Upgrade your lease" It does not say get out of your lease.
As of March of 2006 all equipment directly from Direct TV is leased. All DirecTV dealers will only receive commisions on leased product sales. If they chose not to sell leases they do not get paid by DirecTV and you are still bound by the agreement signed in order to activate the equipment. Some people have also claimed that they can take your previously owned equipment but I would like to see them try that at my house. The installer would lose his hands.

Cable TV is outrageous, and the service isn't what it SHOULD be.

i love my digital cable.
i tink youre exaggerating a tad bit with saying everyone has satellite.
the direct tv n dish companies round here are losing badly to what was adelphia
but since time warner came in and raised rates and is taking away fox, direct tv will eventually prosper within a few years.

its a shame too
i dont want to lose cable.
but we need fox for racing n football. and simpsons and family guy.
