I believe in making money, but Saban screwed LSU, and really made himself look like a *****. They made him the highest paid college coach after he won the Championship in 2004- beatign Bob Stoops salary by $1.00 if memory serves; then he skipped to Miami (Dolphins). Understandable, whorish, but understandable. Everyone who plays/coaches wants to go pro, deep down inside. I'm sure Alabama is paying him a grip to leave the dolphins...

At the end of the day, you can't really be a coach in the NFL. Not really.
Not when key players can have you fired...

When Barry Switzer came to Dallas, I knew his days were numbered because he and Troy Aikman butted heads when Troy played for him at OU; Troy ended up going to UCLA. Now Troy was the star of the Cowboys, and Barry takes over?

Gone are the days of Vince Lambardi, Tom Landry and other powerhouse coaches. Today, it's all about winning, and pampering these muscle-bound divas. At the High School and College level, at least you're still in charge, so I can see why a coach would want to stay (or go back) to college. In the pros, you may be the coach, but you're no more in charge than the chrome dog on the front end is in charge of the Mack truck that it leads.

There's a reason great coaches like Bobby Knight, Dean Smith, Eddie Robinson, Bear Bryant, etc., never made the jump to the Pro's... No one showed how little power a coach has as did my favorite basketball player of all time, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, when he said "The coach goes, or I go".

Coach, it's been nice knowing you...

Someone can be a great coach, but less than decent as a person. What he does on the court speaks for itself. Yeah, he's had his troubles on the court (and off, coaching related), but he still won that many games. His players wouldn't play for him the way they do if he was truly a lousy coach. I think he knows how to get kids motivated to play, even if a few of his methods are unorthodox.

Nick Saban is just doing what he feels he should have done. Me, personally, I think it's great he's back in the SEC. And, IMO, had he not left LSU, they would have hoisted the National Championship trophy last year, guaranteed. Don't get me wrong, Les Miles is a great coach, but Saban just knows how to get that extra 1% out of a player and use it to win.

Everyone seems to forget that Les Miles did the same thing to OSU that Nick Saban did to LSU. He already had made up his mind to head to LSU before the Cotton Bowl to play tOSU.

Just because he smacked a few players around, and had near-brutal discipline on his players (and his students) would not make me look at him as less than great. It's hard to be the man he is in today's mass media, and still 1.) Keep your job, 2.) Remain successful.

Your teams don't win 880 games by accident. You don't come to a loser/unknown basketball program like Texas Tech, and get them ranked nationally (I believe I saw them at 17 one time). Imagine what he could do at a college that high school players longed to play for? (Duke, North Carolina, UNLV, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, etc..) Players (end up) at Texas Tech, no true basketball lover, strives to attend Texas Tech; well, at least not before Bobby Knight arrived.

Heck, my high school football coach (Audie McSwain) was tough. He never smacked me, but I have been led around by the facemask a few times, as were some of my teammates... We laughed at each other, but we didn't take it personally. That was just coach being coach.

I left high school and joined the Army, scared like anyone else would be facing the unknown (Basic Training). Upon my return, the Seniors (Would be Army recruits) asked me, "What was it (Basic) like? Was it tough?" To which I replied, "Didn't you play football for Coach McSwain?" They said, "Yes". I said, "If you can survive 2-a-days from Coach McSwain, no Drill Sergeant on the PLANET will ever be too tough for you. Once you learn to get up at 4:30 AM."
