Help from you computer guys...Pretty Please :)
My husband was moving his computer desk and his monitor fell...Old (7 years) HP computer - CRT monitor...It landed on him not the floor and nothing is obviously broken but when you turn on the computer the monitor says "Please Check Video Cable Connection". We've unplugged it from the computer and the wall and plugged it all back in but still no go. Is it toast or is there something I'm overlooking??
Thanks guys.

Did you try the cable going into the monitor?? there should be a power cable and a connector that looks like this
(O) [_____] (O) it should be blue...
^^
these are screws
there are screws that might need to be tightened...
"you asked for guys, sorry... I'll go away

You may try to wiggle and pull and what not on the connector with the plug in it, on the back of the monitor. Also is there any kind of reset buttons, like where you can demagnatize the screen in the menu?
but chances are 7 years old, its time to step up anyways...

Sorry Danielle, I meant everyone here in general so you count...we did disconnect it from the computer and reconnected it and tightened the screws...no worky.
Patman, I see no reset buttons on the monitor itself and I can't get the menu or anything else to appear on the screen except the video cable connection warning. I've already upgraded
I have a nice Dell with a flat panel, my hubby took the old HP for keeping his junk on.

You might want to verify that the crt video cable did not unseat the video card in the pc. You will have to open the pc to check. BEFORE touching any internal electronics, touch the unpainted case surface to equalize static voltage (don't want to destroy anythisg).
Good luck.
Good luck.

Was the monitor still plugged into the computer when it fell?
If it did fall while still connected, it may be like sysman_rick said and it unseated the video card. Do you have another monitor laying around you could test with if you don't want to take apart the tower?
Oh, and not to sound like an a$$, but the computer was on right?

Tighten video cable at both ends..... wiggke video cable at both ends, the reset might be a small hole to stick a pin in on the back somewhere, "if it has one", if no go, most computer repair shops have used monitors, Lat time I bought a CRT was 2 years ago and got it for about $35 used.
Do not try to open the monitor to fix, besides electrical shock there is a risk of lead poisioning....

Check to see if there are any recessed pins in the monitor cable. If so, a small pair of needle nose pliers can pull them out. I have performed this numerous times at work when connecting a monitor.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We're going to hook it up to my monitor to see if it'll work, provided the HP will connect to a Dell monitor
If it hooks up and we still get no picture I guess we'll be looking at the video card, if it does work I guess it's a used monitor.
Thanks again

Yea it will hook up, they are very universal for now. Newer computers with flatpanels have DVC connections and I'd say that will be standard but the ones with DVC also have the normal analog connector for now.
I think you mean DVI. I bought a 19" flat screen @ Costco a year ago for $239. I am sure they are still that cheap or cheaper now. Mine has a DVI and a VGA port on the back of it. I would recommend that if the monitor IS toast, you buy a flat panel. It's a little investment but well worth it. Less heat, less power consumption, etc...
Thanks Matt, we'll hook it up tomorrow and see what happens. 02SuperCrew, I appreciate the suggestion but the computer isn't worth it, it's only used by my husband to keep vehicle maintenance records and some of his junk on. It's a POS and a $200 monitor is more money than I want to sink into it. We'll either get a used monitor or just junk the whole thing and buy him a nice laptop.
