well.......that is what 22 year-olds do best...........just imagine if they were still teenagers...........
......IMO, you know when you are ready..........I know that I was ready a few years ago....I just could never find the right person......(I am picky.....imagine that....an engineer that is picky)..................and you really need to take the time to understand the other person and make sure that the communication channels are there and readily used......cause in the end.....the guys belly will grow and her hootie-cans will sag.....so you need to be able to at least enjoy each others company just as much as the other aspects of a young relationship............

Well IMO, I don't think MOST 22 year olds could possibly be ready at all. I did say MOST. I know there are exceptions to every rule. It's just too damn young. They're just becoming adults. They need to know who they are and what they want out of life first. What's the rush?
just go ahead and get married.....so you could be miserable like the rest of us

do the right thing...ask her parents first. that way you will not regret not doing it. you'll never regret asking, just regret not asking. you'll be much happier as a family down the road and is a great way to get to know your future in-laws at little more(since you dont usually spend time together, without your wife/girlfriend)....just my 2 cents. good luck and congratulations!!!
btw...my wife and i were dating for 7 years before i asked her, that was when i was 30. i knew i was ready then. could not be any happier in our relationship!!!

Get married ASAP as jounger as you can, then when you get divorced the first time you are not as older to do it again.
Also i dont ask permission to her mother. I think that is a milenary tradition not necesary this days.

There's a difference between asking for permission and asking for her parent(s') blessing in doing so. I asked for their blessing. She had already decided we were getting married, and my family decided that even if we broke up, they were keeping HER, not me. It was such a non-issue... more of a formality really.
Oh, and she's 30, I'm 31. It's time for both of us.
As for knocking your future FIL with a tree branch, that's smooth.... very smooth. Distracting him with a near-death experience, makes you marrying his daughter seem trivial!!

Whats the avergae cost of an engagement ring cost. I know its not all about the most expensive but so far ive payed 1800 for the setting then we were looking earlier and a 1.3-1.5 carat diamond is gonna run me $4,500-6,000 is this abotu right or am I going overboard?
IMHO, unless it's an awesome cut, color, and clarity, that's a bit high.
The best diamond resource I've found on the 'net is www.pricescope.com. Sit down on a rainy Sunday afternoon and read through ALL of their how-tos and tutorials. It'll be WELL worth the time! I wish I had found that site earlier in the process. I got a ring that we're both very happy with, but just to give you an idea, ours was an EGL-certified .70Ct main stone, G/SI-1, surrounded on either side by two brilliant cuts at .33 each, plus six more at .06 each. All together, 1.72 cts of gems, all color-matched, in a true one of a kind custom setting for under $4000. There is some debate as to the quality of an EGL cert (and there is a lot more info about the certs on Pricescope), but it was eye-clean, and I like it, and in the ring surrounded by the other stones, it looks gorgeous!!
Ask around over on Pricescope, and there will be TONS of people to answer your questions. They know as much about diamonds as we know about trucks.

Oh the humanity!!!!!!!!
If you insist on doing this then you buy a simple platinum band with no stone.
If she says anything to the effect that such a ring isn't enough, if she insists on the rock, then you know you are marrying the wrong person.
Turn, and walk away.
I made this some time ago. The need to post it arises every so often . . . like now:
