Remember Drag

Being that u fish don't alot, set ur drag little loose, pull line with medium pull, to set drag, if the fish starts to pull the off the spool, tighten drag just a little bit. u want to be at the fine line, when u pull it in, and if the fish wants to run with it, ur drag is set to let off line ur spool. Playing the fish is the part of fishing! (good luck) and DON'T FORGET THE CHICKEN LIVER 4 THEM THEM CAT FISH

Biggest catfish I ever caught was with a spinner bait.

Baitcast reels tangle (backlash), spincast don't.

Unless you give them to one of my daughters.....

Then you'll spend the day scratching your head wondering how they did that while your cutting line and rewinding a reel in the field.

I use the Yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft clear 12# (label claims it's ideal for spinning tackle). Very nice stuff, low memory, decent - long casts and high knot strength. Also very good on hard hook-sets. It usually goes for about $12 for 600yds but the cashier couldn't get the barcode to scan, so she only charged me $5. It is well worth the $12 for what you get.

Kudos on spending time with your Dad and buying him something both of y'all can use and enjoy. I wish you much luck but I have to say you're going to have problems(poor-stuttering drag, weak[plastic?] gears, line twist, rough line guides, weak rod blanks, etc.) with those kits. I truly hope you don't end up wasteing $35-40 but I feel you will be doing just that.

Good luck ,

Dan

There's a new line out, Stren makes it I think, called Super Knot. I usually just use spider wire on everything. Have you ever used Fireline?

Fireline, . I tried that stuff in 20# for about 3 casts . I didn't like it at all. On one of my baitcasters it felt like a needle from an artificial Christmas tree (same color, just as thick and hard to work with; real stiff).
