Hello Texas
Hello Texas
Tomorrow I will be heading down toward Lake Jackson (south of Houston) for a few days revelry some friends. If any of ya'll Texas folks see a Black KR with Arkansas tags, give me a wave (using all of your fingers). Are there any known speed traps along Hwy 59 between Texarkana and Houston?
Nope, don't know of any speed traps, but be smarter than Matt. Just stay within the speed limit and you'll be fine. State Troops round these here parts don't play. Ask Matt about his last visit to Texas.
I normally hold my speed down so that is not too much of a problem. The thing that I am most concerned about is the little towns that make huge money off of tickets. I know of one place in Arkansas that has three speed limit signs within sight of each other. There is a 70, and then a 35 then back to 70. Most of the town's revenue comes from the two officers that sit in the bushes that are next to the 35 sign. If you ever are on Hwy 63 slow way down in Tyronza.
OOOOhh ... those bastards.
Watch out for those kind in Buffalo, TX
I got a ticket for GOING THE SPEED LIMIT, but the assclown in front of me wasn't. Apparently, the cop and the guy in front of me must've known each other, cause I got HIS ticket.

I make that trip on 59 between Houston and Texarkana quite often. Travel should be pretty decent as far down as Lufkin, but after that, watch out!
Diboll, in particular, is one of the biggest speed traps I've ever seen in my life! They drop the limit down to a ridiculous 35 MPH, and on most days the 5-mile stretch of highway heading through town is crawling with cops!
In general, by the time you've traveled the 50-miles or so between Lufkin and Livingston, you'll be ready to blow the top of your head off with a shotgun! Lots of "speed up" and "slow down" as you go through these rinky-dinky East Texas towns, and lots of heavy truck traffic.
Good luck -- and be sure to mind your P's and Q's in Diboll!

1. Just south of Cleveland by about 1 mile there is a small patch of pine trees between the north and south bound lanes. This is a small cementary. DPS sits there often and nabs many speeding motorist.
2. The worst place that I see is near an area called Patton Village. Just south of Splendora, Tx you will approach an exit for Creekwood dr. At the crest of the overpass there is usually a cop sitting on the right shoulder shooting radar backwards. If your speeding at the top of the overpass you've had it. These officers are known to be ****** about tint, tires beyond fenders, etc. So a speeding ticket is usually compounded with additional fines.
3. Finally, at the juction of 242 and HWY 59 there is a Flying J's truck stop/service center. Cops work in pairs. One sits on the overpass shooting radar and a second catcher awaits on HWY 59 to pickup the speeders. You wont see the radar cop cuz he is above you and the other will be waiting for you with warm welcoming flashing lights.
besides these points I would suggest slowing down anytime you start cresting an overpass. HPD is famous for waiting at these places where you have zero reaction time.
Keep that detector on and listen for it. If its K or Ka band then its real. And dont be missled when you see one cop already with a speeder pulled over cuz chances are another is lying in wait nearby for ****y speeders. They're getting smarter!!!
