here is a pic of my tattoo I got a few years ago

Greek cross

here's the new one so far (more today at 3:30) it's a heart with a skull in the middle, a devil horn wih the tip of the heart turning into a fiery tail and on the other side an angels wing and a halo will be above the heart close to the wing (still a lot more to go)

The first one is about 4"X4" and took less than an hour. around $60 if I remember right cause it was a friend of a friend.

I'm having the new one done by another friend of a friend but he normally charges about $100/hr but is giving me a break. So far he's about 6hrs into it and it's cost 440 so far (including a little tip every time). The guys name is dave and the website is gurutattoo.net

we found my threshold for pain is 3 hours under the needle at which point it just starts to hurt like a bi*** (but the weird feeling afterward is kinda cool )

Thanks, Matt. I really like the shading done on that and the lines are nice.

When it's done he's gonna submit it to the magazines. I'll also post it on that site when it's done (probably after the 4th session in january. 3rd session is today)

yeah it took about 4 hours but I'm pretty pleased with it. Only thing i'd have him do if he did it over again was make it a little lighter, it looks like a blacker dog when it was really a golden retriever... he offered to try to lighten it up with some white ink, but I didn't want ot loose the expression on her face which is dead on, so I'm fine with how it is .
This might show it a little better...

oh trust me, thats what it means. I'm not an idiot. See heres what an idiot would do... walk into a tattoo parlor, say "I want this in chinese". Tattoo guy, having no clue how to write chinese, just scribbles something down and does it.
Smart guy has something professionally translated. The image of teh translation is then blind posted (posting saying "tell me what this says before I tell you what it says) to numerous forums and club websites, including tattoo websites. Take it to chinese restaurant, chinese friends, chinese friends parents, chinatown with help of chinese friends, etc. I got about 20 seperate people that all speak and write fluent chinese that correctly confirmed the translation.

There is like 10 or 12 variations of the "Chinese" language. Only ones I can name are Cantonese, Mandarin, Wu, and Gan. But each Language is a different "dialect". "Chinese" which is not actually a language, but a family/group of different languages, is the most spoken language in the world.

Just a little FYI.

yeah but most of the charachters are the same, though some translations vary slightly.
One thing I do think is funny is whenever you go into a tattoo parlor, you always see in their charts of things they can do an A-Z of chinese charachters, as in if you want your initials, MJA, for example, these are the three charachters you should get. I'm sure the chinese people are laughing their asses off at this one, since the charachters are probably just some universally accepted form of giberish, since chinese has no american alphabet equivalent. There is no chinese symbol for "M" or "J" or "A", since charachters arent letters, but rather sounds or parts of words or whole words entirely. Over 12,000 charachters in the chinese language and you have to know about 7,000 just ot read the standard newspaper.
