[QUOTE=mattadams]yeah but most of the charachters are the same, though some translations vary slightly.
One thing I do think is funny is whenever you go into a tattoo parlor, you always see in their charts of things they can do an A-Z of chinese charachters, as in if you want your initials, MJA, for example, these are the three charachters you should get. I'm sure the chinese people are laughing their asses off at this one, since the charachters are probably just some universally accepted form of giberish, since chinese has no american alphabet equivalent. QUOTE]

I was actually going to get me kids names put on my arm in chinese characters, had them translated and verified, went to the tattoo parlor and one of the "artists" there, older guy in late 50's did his little lecture on..it's permanent, is this what you want to have on your arm at your funeral etc...

When he was finished he added something on, he asked "are you chinese, are your kids chinese, are you moving to china?" to which I answered no of course... His answer was "then WTF do you want chinese on your arm for..."

Needless to say...

Have a 3rd kid on the way (baby boy) that I was going to put on there as well but figured if I put "HIS" name on their it will turn out to be a girl and I'll
be screwed...

Pic is crappy and fuzzy since it was done on a cell phone, tattoo is actually nice and sharp, guy did a really nice job on it.

yeah, I definately didnt get it because it was "trendy", I actually think the charachters themselves are like pictures in themselves and I think they look really great. I looked into many other languages and scripts as well, but liked the chinese Kanji the best .

Don't feel bad, my first tattoo was a yin-yang symbol, almost 20 years ago. Had to explain to the artist what it was and show him a picture. Now I think it's one of the most popular tattoos out there. So... used to be unique, now everyone has one... Tempted to have a cover up done on it but don't know what I want yet. It's also poorly done and faded real bad hence wanting a cover up (note to self, never get tattoo at carnival when it's 2:00 a.m. and you AND the tattoo artist are trashed...)

I got one as a present to myself on before my 30th birthday this summer. I got a heart with a lightning bolt through it & a blue rose above it on the other side with the roses vine wrapped around the heart. UI though about getting 1 for years but didn't know what I wanted. I finally came up with the heart & lightning bolt to symbolize my hubby (the lightning bolt in reference to his L) & my love for him (the heart, obviously). The rose was added on after talking with a couple artists & discussed balancing the image. The final artist added a little something extra to personalize it further (he put devil horns on the lowest leaf on the vine).

I'd show a picture but I don't have one online.
