Dell Laptop Fan Noise

So I get my new Dell Inspiron (duo core) and fire it up today and the fan comes on.....and stays on. Apparently unless you are hibernating the fan stays on all the time. So I am forced to listen to this POS that I can hear from 8 feet away.

I got my 3 year old Toshiba laptop sitting next to it and fan has not come on all day.

I take it this cooling is necessary for the dual core processor?

The continuous fan noise is an outrage.

I have the 9200 inspiron and they don't stay on Maybe that's something with the new models. I bought mine almost two years ago. I did have one fail and my hard drive fried.

I have an Inspiron 6400 and my labtop is not on that much. I can tell u when it comes on I barely hear it... Maybe you should have it checked out. I have a little computer noise but u can not hear it unless is perfect silence.

My Gateway MX6450 runs quite a bit. It has a multi speed fan that runs whisper quiet when it does turn on but if I am running photoshop it will run continuously at different speeds depending on how much work it is doing.

I got the 9300 Inspiron and you can't hear the fans. I'd send it back.

If you want, you can check your settings through "dell quickset" to make sure that they are not turned on all the time there, also, if you have an nvida card, you can check the properties there to make sure that your threshold temperature is set properly, and that the "fan always on" button is not checked.

On my old inspiron 1150, i couldnt get the fan to stay on. And it popped the processor twice. Once under warrienty, and the second (final) time out of warrenty.

Now my inspirion 5000 has a leaf blower for a fan so i bought one of those usb powered cooling pads with two quiet fans to keep the whole thing cool. Works great.
