so far I haven't been overly impressed with either type. Horrible for watching hockey. Too much ghosting for my taste

this is what I'm waiting for. SED, mmmmmm...

The price is rumored to START over $10,000 on a SED set. It will be a year a couple years before they drop into anything close to affordable.

for now, do the research, and you will find that Panasonic Plasma is the way to go... about the only reason to go LCD over Plasma these days is if you are at very high altitude.

As my 32" crt is still working very well, I don't mind waiting a couple of years for the price to go down. From everything I've read, the SED's will blow LCD and plasma out the door as far as picture quality goes. Toshiba is also one of the top quality tv manufacturerererers in the world...

Samsung DLP is your answer. Picture quality better than LCD & far, far cheaper than plasma. DO NOT use a plasma for gaming. Even the "no traing whatsoever" sales monkey at Best Buy should be able to tell you that.

61" HD ready for only $2599 (you can get it even cheaper if you shop around):

They have these in 67" & 71" sizes too.

For comparison:

Smaller and almost double the price. Imagine how much a top of the line 60"+ set would cost.

KC-10 FE out...

Just substitue Pioneer for Panasonic and you could be onto something...

... and Bill.. you are SO behind the times. Drop that plasma phobia!

EDIT: Actually, I'm shocked at the number of plasma myths people are saying in this thread! Technology moves quickly people, don't believe that crap from the first couple generations of plasma televisions and cheap crap. Modern, quality plasmas are the real deal now fellas.

I was just in Best Buy this afternoon. My current TV is a world wide multi system & it's 12 years old. I honestly don't know if its true or not but the sales punks in BB are still saying gaming is a no go on a plasma. The picture quality was unreal I must say. I was looking at a 71" Pioneer & they had some underwater video playing. I actually thought I was scuba diving again for a slight moment, the picture was that realistic.

I would have to agree with your statement that the new plasma's should be able to support games by now.

I use my 360 on my Pioneer exclusively. Gaming rocks on the plasma. I might be worried if I played some game with a static image for like 6 hours straight.

I think the goons at BB think that the temporary image ghosting that can happen on a plasma is 'burn in'. It's NOT. Play your games. Enjoy!

Your going to be waiting much longer than that. SED's will blow current LCD and DLP projection units away but not plasmas. They may ultimate surpass plasmas in the future, but manufactures are on thier 5th - 9th generation of plasma panels and they are shocking good. You'll have to wait a few gens of SEDs to really get wowed. Maybe, Maybe by that time you'll see broadcasts in 1080p, but I doubt it. Just buy a good plasma now and enjoy many years of HD programming!!!

Seems like a good opportunity for someone to invent curtains.

I can't believe how many stupid things are on this page alone. I give up. People have no freaking clue what they are talking about.

All I will say is this, for the average consumer looking to get an HDTV to accomplish what the VAST majority of current technology supports, a Panasonic Plasma is the way to go.

If you have DEEP wallets, get a high-end Pioneer Elite, but expect to finance something closer to what a small car costs- literally.

SED? Looks promising. But like others mentioned, it isn't even out yet! Let alone proven or tested... Plasma will still be the most viable choice for at least a few years to come.

And as for Samsung DLP? I have a HUGE problem with that claim. I in fact couldn't get over how dissapointed I was with the Samsung DLPs I viewed...both in store, and in my GF's house (She has the new 46 DLP).

NOT that impressive at all. My old Panasonic EDTV blows the DLP away in so many categories, which is just sad.

Ok, I'm done now.

Go buy something, or save your money. In the end, it's your call.

ive been dealing with tvs and home stereos my for about 6 years now and i think all but one of the plasmas are horrible and the panasoic is the worst one ive seen (no offence). they weight way to much and the picture is horrible on them unless its on a high definition channel. the pioneer plasma is a different story it looks great on every kind of signal but like the others said all the plasmas burn, they might be able to be fixed once but after that they are trash. we sold one to the toyota house here in town for some scion dispaly thing they had going to play a dvd. it was burned beyond repair with in 2 days. now if your using it normaly it probably wont ever burn you just have to be careful. the lcds are great tvs they are making them in bigger sizes now, but they do cost more than a plasma of the same size, they look so much better tho and have a much greater life expectancy in my house i have a 40" samsung lcd and its been nothing but perfect so far(knock on wood). i would have rather bought a dlp but due to the space we were putting it in it would not work so we spendt a little bit more to get the lcd and im very happy with it. after selling so many of these high end tvs the lcd will cost more up front but is the safer choice of the two
