i grew up in joliet IL (50m south of chicago) and now live on the IL-W border in Lake Villa (50m north of chicago). i only go to chicago if i have a knife at my throught. i have not been there for at least 10 years. i dispise (sp) that place. do you own a handgun? handguns are illegal in city of chicago. drive to indiana to get your liquor and cigarettes because taxes are outrageous. traffic sucks. parking tickets are rampant. the mayors a crook. people who live in chicago think that there is no other place in Illinois... but chicago. its freakin liberal heaven. they have a law for everything. i would gladly eat tombstone pizza and oscar mayer hotsdogs instead of visiting chicago.

please don't do it - oaw

Thats funny. I was considering living in schaumburg with a buddy until I find a place. I know the traffic is horrible, the food is great, and all mayors are crooks. I was hoping to hear from more people that live there or have lived there on what the job outlook is and what places to avoid (other than the south side).

Thanks to those of you who were helpful, please keep it comming

....the only good thing about chicago is the fans cheer during the national anthem at the start of the blackhawks games.

I have lived in Chicago my whole life (except for the 4Yrs in the Army) and I'll be 40 next Yr (Holy chit I'm getting old). I lived in the city up until 6 Yrs ago. I am now in the SW burbs, Plainfield-Romeoville area. The 1st time you take a walk down by the lakefront during the sumertime you will be hooked. There are some beautiful women here!!. We also have great restuarants, museums, and awesome bars. Just don't become a Cubs fan please. We already have enough of those here. GO SOX!!! Yes the traffic is terrible and getting worse but the pluses far out weigh the negatives here.
