Question about a mustang 5.0
Hey all i know this is a truck site but i have an opportunity to pick up a 93 mustang 5.0 gt. Since you all are so knowledgebale what are some signs that i should look for on the 5.0 and my bigest worry is what are signs or a fixed bent frame or a bending frame or frame work was done. Help me out all.

The first thing to look at is lower control arm mounting pockets for the rear suspension, they were a problem on modified 5 speed cars. If you are not sure what I'm talking about, it's where the lower arms on rear suspension mount to the car, that portion of the frame is weak point on the 79-93 cars. I have personally seen distorted bolt holes and torn metal from repeated hard launches. They actually sell a reinforcement kit to fix this exact problem.

Just remember, Mustangs are Mustangs...they generally don't lead easy going lives, regardless of how nice the car may look.
That is a nice clean car.
What he (^) said on the torque boxes, I reinforced mine already, but mine has numerous 5500rpm launches on slicks and alot more power than that one looks to have. (It looks mostly stock under the hood) Definitely still an issue on a stocker though.
As for a bent unibody? would be hard to tell, check the obvious like stress cracks in/around the unibody main rails in both front and rear. Fitment of the doors and trunk (not necessarily signs of a crooked body, but a hack job of a repair would show).
Check for rust up inside of the fender above the wheel lip and the rear hatch. Try the old magnet/cloth trick and check for signs of body filler.
As for mechanical, who cares right, every part on there can be upgraded
Initial signs of that T5 tranny wearing out though will be popping out of gear on downshifting, 2nd gear was always the worst on most of my T5's.
These cars can be made FAST for rather cheap, lots of used HI-PO parts out there.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out

Cloth and magnet trick is where you drag a magnet over a car's paint. If the magnet doesn't stick, then there is some type of body filler on that panel. The cloth goes inbetween the magnet and the car so as not to scratch the paint.

Is it a big deal? not really, at least not to me, just put it on your to do list to get reinforced. There are brackets you can buy and have them welded in by a chassy chop. I re-inforced mine with home-made brackets and my mig melder and they are holding up fine.
If you plan on putting any performance mods on, or running slicks at the track, you will eventually HAVE to do them anyways.
I would be more concerned with rust/body work on the unibody, mainly cause these are the things that I don't fix myself.

Looks like a nice car. Personally I'll never own a car with a porno red interior, but some people love 'em. Look for rust on the bottom of the hatch and doors.
Torque boxes can be welded ideally. They can also be repaired with battle boxes.

Nice find. Anything you find wrong, or break on that car can be replaced bigger, badder and stronger. The aftermarket part stores for the Fox Mustang have really come into their own. The values have already bottomed out on them, and every time one gets wrecked or junked, the rest are worth a little bit more. I have an '87 with all the mods, and wouldn't sell it for twice the asking price of that one.
Thanks for the posts guys i went and i looked at the car today it has a little defect on the bumper maybe hit a curb or somethign nothing major just need a new bumper i will prolly buy one anyway. the only accident that i saw it was in was the passenger side front fender was hit and is replaced now and looks good from the outside just when u open the hood u can see it i took some pics of it with my phone there alirght i can post if someone would like to see. I did not drive it but i had the guy drive it so i could fully listen to creaks pops snaps and so forth. sounded good ****er felt smoth when i went threw the gears with clutch in of course. Thanks all for the tips i will prolly be goin out there again to test drive it my self and also look at it more. Any more tips all.

yeah, that's what I want to get my hands on, and fix up...

I like to go to Tirerack.com, and pick the 1991 Mustang Gt, and play with the different rim options to see what I'd have it looking like. I'd have to put that in the garage though. Those freaking Mustangs of that era got a lot of people hurt and killed. (Car-jackers)
