The Vega had these monster slicks on the back, and these little roller wheels sticking out the back. When the light turned green, eveyone stopped laughing. The front end of the Vega was pointing up in the air, and the smoke from those burned up slicks was everywhere. I can just imagine the guy in the Vega laughing his A$$ off on that one.........Never assumed anything about a car after that.

Thanks for discreetly pointing out that spelling error. Gosh, just think what everyone here would have thought of me if you hadn't pointed it out on the sly........JK
My fingers used to be so much faster typing that my eyes couldn't keep up....Now both are so slow, I just don't care to try.

The fastest I have ever been in car was '67 Mustang coupe with a 426 CobraJet.
It was with my 65 year old (at the time) juvenile delinquint dad. We ran the Silver State 100. Basically a closed off hiway in Nevada. We topped out a little over 180 MPH. The old fart can drive and build race cars like no one I know personally. I was his navigator on this run and he had me sucking seat cushions up my rearend while showing a Porsche 911 S how to take high speed turns. Quite thrill for me but very shameful for the Porsche. He just cruised thru the pits and never stopped afterwards with rest of the group.
I can't blame him after talking smack before the run about how the Mustang would beat him on the straights but his Porsche would out-corner him any day of the week. We left at 30 second intervals, so we left right behind him 30 seconds later. Caught him and passed him in the curvy part of the course.
He is friends with Roger Ward, Indy champion, who sponsored the race. Roger waived him thru tech inspection with a "This guy knows what he's doing....passed". It was like I never really knew my dad and his friends. He don't talk much about things, he just does it.
Anyway, that was the fastest I have ever been.

They didn't make a 1967 426 Cobra Jet, in fact they didn't make a 426 Cobra Jet at all, 427, 428 and 429s were the displacements.
67s had options for 200s, I believe 4 versions of the 289, and a special option 390. GT350s had 289s and the GT500s had 428s.

EDIT: 428 CJ's came out as 1968 1/2 models in the Mustang GT. The 429 was the "super" CJ, although it was not part of the 427/428 "FE" family.
