I HATE Truck Shopping, but...
Actually, I have a great deal of fun shopping for the trucks---I like the trucks---it is the salesmen that I can't stand---and then the haggling. Go for the FX4. More truck, just a little more money.

Nobody does---that is the game. (And I do not like that part.) Use the internet as a tool to save you some $$. You should be able to see what the trade-in value is, what the re-sale value is, and what other dealers are selling one for. Remember---most dealers want you to work down in price from the sticker---you start at a value and work up. Don't be afraid to walk.
Remember, Ford makes a bazillion trucks---if you don't cut a deal on this one, I guarantee that there are others cheaper.
Best of luck!

Hey---I have been to DeKalb many times, I used to ref basketball in the Mid-American Conference. Flew into Midway and either rented a car or one of my crewmembers picked me up. Always crappy, snowy weather...

I hate truck shopping.I won't talk to a dealer until I find the right truck.I do most of my searching when the dealerships are closed.

One thing to think about. The warranty is near the end on both of those trucks.Probably why someone else traded them in.Just test drive them real good and maybe have a mechanic check them out to make sure you won't be replacing tires, brakes, balljoints etc. etc. too soon.
BTW,out of those two trucks I'd take the FX4.

The extended warrenty I have on my current SuperCrew goes to 100k, I'm at 72k now, but the **** third party company also won't cover ****! I will get a Ford plan if I get a new to me truck.
If you're trying to get away from annoying maintenance issues, I'd be inclined to stay away from the '04 model year. It was the first year of the new bodystyle, and my impression from hanging around this website is that the '04 models were markedly more troublesome than the '05-and-up models.
Just my .02......

John,
Offer them $18k for the FX4, see what happens. Or you can buy my truck for $29,803.00.
I'm gonna go check the Corral now for the "F150 owners look here" thread.
EDIT: Change your damn sig since you sold that lemon, too.

I like the FX4. If you really want to get truck I would get the extended warranty. Chance's are your going to have to use it a couple of time's and to me that's worth it depending on what goes wrong. But on those price's why don't you just spend alittle bit more and you might be able to get a 06 for a good price.

If you just gotta have a 4x4, then that may be the best way to go...
I'd just worry about having a ride that's already 3 model years old. If it holds true to form (Like the 2001 did), it'll start breaking on you, while you're still making payments... If you think you're pissed now, you'll be urine-soaked if you're having to fork over repair cash, and payment in the same month... Then again, that seems par for the course with the 4x4's. The 4x2's seem to be a lot more reliable.
Just FYI, We bought a BRAND New SuperCrew 4x2 for $21,000.00
You might do better checking around, before you sign yourself up for some potential trouble. But, if you've gotta have it, spend $19 and run the CarFax on it, to make sure you aren't inheriting someoen else's problem.
