wrong oil in a Ford Escape?

my brother works as a Mechanic for a Chevy dealer. He somehow told my mother he can do an oil change at his Chevy dealer cheaper then a Ford dealer will charge. So she complied I guess.

so my brother goes to the store and buy 5W-20, since Chevy's only take 5w-30, he had to go to a store and buy some oil.

he came back with 5W-20 made by NAPA. When I went to visit my mother later that day, he had an extra bottle of oil so I was reading the bottle.

Its not a Synthetic blend, which Ford clearly says they recommend in there cars and trucks, this NAPA oil is just plain regular 5W-20 with no Synthetic blend in it what so ever.

How bad is this for the engine in this Escape? Does it really matter if it's a synthetic blend or not?

I believe, though, that once you start using synthetic you're supposed to keep with it.
I know if you go fully synthetic its not a good idea to keep switching back and Fourth, but I know Ford tells you to put in a Synthetic Blend, which Ford dealers put into all there cars and trucks, but I did not know how critical it is to put in just regular oil which does not have the blend in it.

Prolly no big deal. Its not a performance car and Im sure she doesnt race around town doing 100mph + all the time. If Synthetic is what you normally use, then put it back in at the next oil change and keep your brother away from it....Damn Chevy kids

To cut through the BS, on a newer car using dino oil for one oil change will not be a problem. Just go back to the synthetic at your next interval.

My MDX uses a synthetic blend, as recommended by Acura, but the RL uses a full synthetic...

I have a friend with a GS300 and he has always gone ful synthetic... He said it helps him sleep better at night... Six years, 120,000 + miles, a lead foot with no mechanical issues, I can understand why...

Don’t sweat it…

If you change your oil every 3,000 miles like us **** people do it don’t really matter if it’s a synthetic blend, full synthetic or plain old dino oil as none will make a big difference on wear and tear of the motor.

You can mix dino oil with synthetic blends and full synthetic oils. There may be a few special full synthetic blends you can’t mix but if that’s the case they would have a warning on the bottle to completely flush the motor of all dino oil…

I use Mobil One 5w-30 full synthetic and change it every 3,000 miles, **** yes, but so what…

The engine's gonna lock up while you're going down the road at highway speeds, leaving you without power steering or power brakes, so you'll go careening into like five trees before flying downhill and smashing into your garage (again).

No, it doesn't matter.

Just from the oil? Oh my God.

Hey Quintin,

going to the big city today to pick up a Rem 700, 3.08. Now I'll be able to reach out there and touch someone.

You forget who is asking the question. To anybody else this wouldn't be a problem, but given it's Mattineer you just know there is a story that's going to be made out of this eventually.

Unless it's cooking oil in the mom's escape, which I wouldn't put past him.
