COT ( Car of tomorrow )
COT ( Car of tomorrow )
What do you guys think of the new COT. To me it looks like Nascar is going IROC. I dont like the look of them. They should go back to run what you build, if your car cant run with the rest, well too freakin bad.
I hate the COT -- it looks like a damn ricer to me! Maybe that's appropriate now that Toyota's in the mix.....
If I were in charge, I'd tell the boys to go down to their local dealer, order a stripper version of the latest model, knock the windows and interior out, and build it up from there. Race the damn things like they did back when it was true "stock car" racing!
I think it's asinine when you have to look at the sticker on the front of the car to determine whether it's a Chevy, Dodge, or Ford.....

But I don't think Nascar will get to this point until the run the COT in a few races next year. They'll finally hear the fans and realize the COT is only a good idea to fatten the pockets of already rich big race teams and squash the small race teams.

I think the car looks alright, but I agree manufacturers need to look different. I'll be fine though as long as there are still plenty of wrecks.
So, what's the big deal. Everyone pretty much runs the same boring car now... NASCAR pretty much sucks IMHO... I wanna see production cars flying around the track...

Now a days, a Stang or Vette hitting a wall at 180 mph is going to be crazy ugly for everyone involved.

Nothing wrong with the new car as its really not any different then the current cars. There are NO Fords, Chevys, Dodges, etc racing in NASCAR just stickers with names. There are NO stock cars in NASCAR, there is nothing in NASCAR you could ever purchase on a production car.
It cracks me up to see people cheering for one team or the other because of a stupid sticker on the car that states Ford or Chevy because all your really cheering for is Ford’s money, or Chevy’s money, or who ever that is poured into a highly modified racing machine that no man or women can buy at any dealership.
I don’t understand why some people get all hyped up about Toyota being in NASCAR because its just another sticker on an evenly prepared highly modified racing machine.
They are all the same now and this new car changed nothing except the functioning spoiler on the back. I hope that may be able to replace the stupid restrictors for the high speed tracks…
Cheer for who ever you want people because there is NO Ford running on the track, hasn’t been for over a decade…

Actually it's more then just the spoiler.
The point for NASCAR is this. They wanted to lower the cost for teams to compete in races and create safer cars.
To Lower the Cost of creating multiple cars for multiple tracks:
Now the only MAJOR items on a car (besides camber, track bar adjusts, etc) that need to be made between tracks is the front spoiler and the rear spolier. These parts can be raised or lowered based on NASCAR requirements for the track and changed when NASCAR allows variations on different tracks. The idea here is that it is very expensive in both wind tunnel time and parts to modifiy the current cars front and rear spoiler since they "mold" into the current body.
To Create a Safer car:
This COT is actually, longer, taller, wider and thus weights more. The purposes are several. Taller to give the driver more head room in the event of a roll over. Wider and moved the driver's seat more towards the middle of the car to keep driver's safe from side impacts with other cars or a wall. Longer to absorb more impact on head on crashes or rear end crashes.
Also a lot of drivers have complained the past couple years about excessive bumping which some just say is bump drafting. With the new front spoiler drivers are less inclined to want to bump draft or bump now. In the current car you're less likely to impact your aero-dynamics because of the support behind the bumper. However, with the COT the new front spoiler does like to be used in bumping or bump drafting and could break a lot easier. Thus this part theoretically can also improve safety.
I'm not agreeing with this logic or reasons for these changes, but rather just repeating what I learned from NASCAR.

Point being there is no Ford's, Chevy's, Dodge's, and there won't be any Toyota's running in NASCAR just those manufactures money spent on big money motor, engineering, etc programs to help get those Ford and other "stickers" to fly around the track as fast as possible...

And, stickers do add hp. My ricer friend told me a Chevy sticker was worth 50hp on my Mustang. Ford was worth only 40hp, apparantely its 10hp per letter...
I agree with whoever said something about NASCAR blowing. How fun, lets race around in a circle for 500 miles in the exactly same car with different stickers. Plain jane cars, how fun is that?
Yay left turn! Yay Left Turn! Yay another, and another!!!!
whoopty freaking doo. I do something similar to Nascar every other week, Its called "mowing my lawn"....
