Classic Mustangs

Anyone else here have a classic mustang, more importantly 64-69 MYs? I've got a 1965 2+2. I've got the grille with the bars and the pony emblem in the middle. Im trying to find the chrome surround piece that goes all the way around the opening so I can get rid of the bars/pony emblem in the middle. Anyone know? I also need to find mirrors, suspension, and a bunch of interior/exterior trim pieces. Any good websites you can recommend and more importantly the question about the grille?

Thanks!

I have a 65 coupe.

There are tons of parts catalogs out there. You shouldn't have a problem finding parts. I have a few electronic catalogs on my work computer I will look at for you tomorrow.

I don't understand what it is you are needing. The shiney stainless grill surround is there whether you run the corral and bars or not. I removed the corral and bars years ago. Gives it more of a Shelby look.

It doesn't go all the way around. . The pony emblem comes down and has a piece that literally rests/bolts up onto the body and there is a space in the trim that allows it to sit there. Here you go.

AAAAHHH, I think I remember now. I got the center piece, about 2 inches long, from a 66. They had the corral that did not bolt to the bottom.

I will try to get one tomorrow night. It is just a piece Ford came up with to cover the gap where the curved pieces come together. See if you can spot a 66. got to go now.

Yea there is a single center piece that doesnt have the pony attatched to it but I am not sure if there is a complete surround thing.

Ive get a 66 coupe 4-speed and a 66 convert gt 4-speed. my 66 coupe is getting painted hopefully this week if not next week.

not sure of the websites but here are some good companies

National Parts Depot
Year One
Mustangs Plus

There are a few more but I usually buy all my parts from National Parts Depot. I have found them to be the cheapest and they offer free shipping on orders over $300.

Ok, the above post shows the 65. In 66, the corral was just an oblong shape that attached in the center of the grille. So they used a piece about 2" long that has a threaded bolt in the bottom to cover the space. Those 2 pieces in the pic of the above post form the surround, you need the piece from a 66 to cover the gap between them.

Try www.cjponyparts.com . I think you could build an entire Mustang from parts they carry.

Anyone have a suggestion on suspension? I don't want to lower the car any, my tires already rub , but improve handling.

I have the heavier 65 shelby front springs and Koni shocks all way around. The springs are slightly shorter than stock and quite a bit stiffer. I also have the Shelby sway bar, think it was 3/4" and all the plastic bushings.

How much did you pay for the Koni shocks? I found them for like $300 for the rear and $319 for the front. .

Another question, what size tires do you have on there? I had to use a wheel spacer to get the caliper to clear my wheels and now my tires rub pretty bad. .

I bought the Konis several years ago, they were about $400. I am running the remanufactured 65-66 wheel, so I have no spacer problems. I will have to check on the tires size, all I can remember is that they are B. F. Goodrich T/A radials
