NJ State police radar can clock you standing still, driving behind you, driving opposite direction to you and get you driving behind them. And it does hold up in court. The judge/DA have a question checklist they ask all Police about their radar and it's checklist.

Two words....

Radar Detector! They work! Last time I got pulled over I was doing 62 in a 55. Lecture but no ticket. I figured that two can play that game. I went on line and ordered a Whisler for about 65 bucks and it has saved my bacon ever since.

If this was NJ and the State Police get you with radar and you know you were wrong I wouldn't fight it. They'll tack on court costs, battered wives fees and something else.

My wife just fought a ticket for doing 60 in a 50. It cost her $450 for the fine and all the associated costs.

Well it says you can plead guility with an explanation so I'll contend that I was going over 60 but for a good reason.

We'll see how it plays out.

So how would this work though if I have 15% tinted windows in the back and on the sides? Would it really work through the tint? How far up do you need to have it on the wind shield? Hopefully low enough so it isn't an eye sore.

I had the same concerns, but it has worked flawlessly. I have a tinted window in my rear shell, front of shell, slder window and no problems. Best investment/insurance you can have. Sure it's cheap and I get a few false signals, but easily lived with.

Getting pulled over for doing 62 in a 55 is ridiculous. I have the Escort Passport 8500. It's a good system but the Staties use instant-on. The detector only works if someone ahead of you gets clocked to give you the warning. If not? They gotcha!! Then you better hide the unit. It's not that they're illegal. Cops like nabbing those with them and most likely won't give you a break on your speed. And your speed means everything in this state when it comes to fines and points. If you're on a 65 mph road or a road that has a sign that says high accident area your fine is doubled.

Instant on

Yep...we got one trooper who pulls that here in town. It can't detect what isn't there. A couple months ago, I was doing well over the 45 posted limit when the detector suddely went to 9. He must have seen me hit the brakes and let me slide.
Good point!

Instant on....hmm that bites.

How is the Valentine V1 unit? One of the best? Also, how high up do you guys mount them in your F150 wind shield?

I've love to put it right behind the rear view mirror but then it wouldn't be able to check for radar out the back. (I'd use the concealed display and route that to the ash tray.

Doesn't seem to matter much. Mine is right below the rear view mirror.
