I have had my dell for 4 years, running strong. They seem to use higher quality components which is really the only REAL difference between computer manufacturers (well that and customer service). I don't know if you are dead set on those brands but you might want to check out newegg.com if price is a big concern.

Ditto. When you sell that many laptops a day (no one else comes close), you can sell them for alot less profit margin than anyone else.

Dell's customer service people are from who knows where, can never understand them. Thats the only part that sucks.

I was getting ready to walk out the door and go get the compaq when my buddy called and we were talking he reminded how much trouble I've had with the HP (which is who makes Compaq....)

I'd have to vote for trying to get a Dell also if possible. Check out Dell's outlet.

I picked up a "previously owned"(had been sent to a customer, but the laptop had never made it past the EULA to fully boot it up) and saved between $100-$200 if I remember correctly.

I bought a refurb Dell Latitude from the Dell Outlet for about $400 cheaper than what it would have cost new with a three year warranty. I use it pretty hard as well for work, so far, so good.
